Lord Confident Of Strong Wagga Cup Showing

JODIE Lord's kennel sweeps into Wagga on Friday with top chances in the Wagga Cup heats with prolific winners Winlock On Top and Second Exit.

JODIE Lord's kennel sweeps into Wagga on Friday with top chances in the Wagga Cup heats over 525m and, despite neither having raced at the track, Andy Lord says that matters not to Winlock On Top and Second Exit.

Winlock On Top (Fernando Bale-Glitzy Bling) has drawn the four in his heat and comes up against some stiff opposition.

Second Exit (My Bro Fabio-Cawbourne Looney) has the eight in her heat in what appears a very winnable race.

“Neither have raced at the track,” Lord said.

“But that won't bother Winlock On Top because he has been on so many tracks and is such a terrific chaser he will go great.

“And Second Exit might not have raced there, but she has trialled a lot on the track and knows the place well.”

FIELDS AND FORM WAGGA FRIDAY

The $25,000-to-the-winner final will be run on May 21 and it has brought together some smart gallopers in the heats.

Lord says the four box will not worry Winlock On Top.

“I actually prefer him off the middle draws,” she said.

“And he's also got a vacant box on his outside. Off the inside he seems to get outpaced and then find trouble.”

Andy says Winlock On Top has been an underestimated dog winning 20 of his 66 starts and $117,000 in stakes.

“He's a couple of lengths short of being a real top notcher, but he's never injured, just turns up every time he races and puts in,” he said.

Of Second Exit, Andy says the eight box is not ideal but the fact she knows the track so well, and appears to be in a heat not as strong as the others, will suit her perfectly.

She goes into the series off her third to Pay Call in the Group 3 Ladies Bracelet last Saturday night at Wentworth Park.

“I bred her and sold her at 18 months to a mate who will find her a great broodbitch for the future," he said.

“She's got a real brood bitch pedigree and we did that on purpose.”

The bitch has won 22 of her 68 starts and earned $136,000 in stakes.

She has won the Dapto Middle Distance Championship and been a finalist in the Million Dollar Chase Consolation.

“We always thought she would make a top stayer, but she is going so well over sprints, we have kept her there,” said Andy.
