Lord's Import To Make Bulli Impact

The Million Dollar Chase is the ultimate goal for Jodie Lord's high-flying Victorian import Global Impact, which is yet to taste defeat since relocating to NSW.

But in the meantime, Lord is adopting a ‘small fish are sweet' approach with Global Impact, an April '16 son of Turanza Bale and Portrait Ignites that boasts a perfect six from six record since joining Lord's Gunning kennel.

Global Impact showed potential winning three of his first eight starts in Victoria, but after finishing at the tail of the field in a heat of the Group 2 Launching Pad at Sandown Park in early April he was transferred to Jodie Lord and husband Andy.

Global Impact made an immediate impression at his first start for the Lords, scoring first-up at Goulburn by 10.5 lengths in a flying 19.63s on June 4, and he hasn't looked back since, winning his next five on end at Goulburn and Bulli over both 400m and 472m.

"He was trained by Pat Sofra down in Victoria," Andy Lord explained.

"I've spoken to Pat about other dogs and breeding a few times and he asked me if I wanted to have a go with Global Impact. It's the first dog I've trained for Pat.

"He's a very good dog; a very fast dog.

"The dog could always run but he had a few little issues before we got him. I know he's got a bit of age on him but I think he's just started to work it all out."

Check out the form for Global Impact's Bulli event

Global Impact will be striving to improve his picket-fence form-line to seven in a row at Bulli on Saturday night, when he exits box three in the third event over 400m.

His opposition will include another ex-interstate kennelmate in Wynburn Mia (box 2), the winner of two of her seven starts in Tasmania.

"Global Impact will be hard to beat again," Lord offered.

"We've got him up to 472m but I don't want to put him back up to 500 until the weather starts to warm up a bit.

"He was cramping a bit and while we've sorted that out I'm happy to keep picking up his grades while it's cold and work him up to 520m. We might as well!

"The 500 won't be a problem. He ran a really good race at Sandown before we got him and I think the Million Dollar Chase will be an ideal race for him. We'll look to qualify him on one of the U-turn tracks but I've got no doubt he's a good two-turner too."

While optimistic Global Impact can continue on his winning way on Saturday, Lord will also be keeping a very keen eye on The Meadows where Show Business (heat 6, box 7) and Cawborne Marty (heat 8, box 5) will line up in heats of the Group 1 Maturity Classic.

Both contested last Saturday's Group 1 Vic Peters Classic, with Cawborne Marty finishing second to Feral Franky, beaten only half a length; however they're likely to go around at big odds and Lord is hopeful rather than confident about their prospects.

"They've never seen the joint before but they're good enough to have a crack at it," Lord said.
