TICKETS to the 2022 Launching Pad have sold out four weeks ahead of the heats of the $460,000 series.

The last of the 64 tickets was purchased by Mario Briganti following boom pup Big Opal Rock’s satisfactory trial after the last race at Sandown on Sunday, in which he ran an eye-popping 29.03.

“We’re really happy with the response to this year’s series,” said Sandown Racing Coordinator, Jason Adams.

“To sell out so far in advance of the heats is a great endorsement for the concept.”

Entry to the three-week series is restricted to those who have purchased a ticket. Greyhounds must have 1-6 wins and no more than 30 starts, creating a challenge for trainers with greyhounds eligible for the series.

“There’s a heap of fast young greyhounds around. Some are on the edge of eligibility with six wins which is a tricky situation for trainers.

“Paul Bartolo for example is torn on which way to go with Storm Stroller. He’s had six wins and is flying at the moment – does he stop racing until Launching Pad heats or race on – it’s a pretty big decision he’s got to make.”

Some of the sport’s most accomplished greyhounds have progressed through the series since becoming a slot race in 2015.

Kuro Kismet defeated Aston Rupee in the 2021 final, while Lala Kiwi, Aston Fastnet and Jungle Deuce are some of the notables that also contested that series.

The 2022 edition promises to be equally high class with Phoenix winner Wow She’s Fast, brilliant 29.07 Sandown winner Amron Boy, and Country Championship winner Love The City just some of the prospects with confirmed tickets to the series.

Tickets to the Launching Pad are transferrable and often change hands leading into the series, however trainers still have two further opportunities to win a ticket.

“We’re thankful of Greyhound Racing South Australia’s on-going support of the Launching Pad, they’ll be running their own series again with the winning connections gaining a slot in the Launching Pad,” Adams said.

“Those heats will be at Angle Park on Thursday March 10.

“We’ll also be running our own Launching Pad qualifier series with the winner gaining a slot, those heats are on Sunday March 20.”

The Launching Pad heats will be run on Thursday 31 March with the final to be run on Thursday 14 April.
