Mackenna Magic Cements Easter Egg Favouritism

PRE-SERIES favourite Mackenna has cemented her place atop of Golden Easter Egg betting with a blistering semi-final victory at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Showing her rivals a clean set of heels, the high price purchase was simply brilliant in qualifying for the $350,000-to-the-winner finale, making light of work box six to score in a slashing 29.29 with electrifying all round sectionals.

The semi-final romp for trainer Michelle Sultana follows her slashing 29.20 heat success a fortnight ago which is the second fastest time ever posted at the circuit and the quickest by a female.

Such has been her sheer dominance in the opening two rounds of the series, the time-honoured Easter showpiece – which has been a long range target of connections – is the daughter of Whiskey Riot's to lose.

The prodigious talent has drawn box two for the final which is expected to only see her popularity with punters soar further.

“It's a massive relief tonight off our shoulders,” trainer Michelle Sultana said.

“We know what she can do but she still needs to come out and do it and she did which was great.

“From behind it looked like she got turned sideways but she got through and then I was trying to see what strong dogs were behind her.

“She's gone awesome. I'm thrilled for Paul Abela and her owner George. It's been a long wait to get here but we are here now.”

On an exciting night of racing, the opening semi-final was won by the Peter Lagogiane-trained Nad Al Sheba which defeated Marvel Zombie in 29.51.

Semi-final two was won by Queensland star All Natural, a brother to Million Dollar Chase hero Jay Is Jay, accounting for dual group 2 winner Nangar Jim in 29.63.

In the third semi-final, the well supported Nangar Larry made full use of his box one draw to score a narrow victory over the always improving youngster Ferness in 29.68.

The final semi-final saw Mackenna an emphatic winner over Zipping Megatron which edged out Shima Current late to book a Golden Easter Egg berth.
