Magri Eyes ‘Mega' Bucks In Bulli Gold Cup

JASON Magri will be out to shake off his Gosford Cup disappointment when Zipping Megatron and Comet A Cost step out in the Bulli Cup.

LEADING trainer Jason Magri will be out to shake off his Gosford Cup disappointment when boom youngster Zipping Megatron joins gifted speedster Comet A Cost in Friday night's Group 2 Bulli Gold Cup Final (472m).

Magri was left reeling in the lead up to last month's Gosford Cup decider when forced to scratch raging hot favourite Zipping Novak, runner-up in last year's Bulli Gold Cup, on the morning of the group 2 showpiece with injury.

But while his Gosford Cup hopes ended in tatters, Magri is confident his star duo can bring about a change of fortune in the $40,000-to-the-winner Bulli decider, following mightily impressive heat wins last Sunday.

FIELDS AND FORM BULLI FRIDAY NIGHT

Zipping Megatron, returning to the races for the first time since November, landed his heat in a flying 25.81s, while Comet A Cost continued this Bulli love affair with a 25.88s winning romp.

The winning treble on the card continued the remarkable success Magri has enjoyed at Bulli, winning more races than any other trainer in the past five years, boasting 117 victories from 264 starters at the eye-watering strike rate of 44 per cent.

The depth of quality on display in the south coast feature is exhibited in the market with each of the eight finalists quoted under double figure odds.

Zipping Megatron (box 4) holds favouritism at $4.40 ahead of Gosford Cup winner Good Odds Cobber (box 3) at $4.60 while Comet A Cost (box 8) is on the next line at $5.50.

Zipping Mitzy, dam of Zipping Megatron, has proven to be outstanding in the breeding barn

And if Zipping Megatron – the least experienced runner in the field – annexes the finale it will also continue the immense success Magri has tasted with greyhounds from the all-conquering Hallinan breeding line.

That includes Zipping Megatron's mother Zipping Mitzy which before her premature retirement basically owned the Bulli circuit with seven slashing wins and two seconds from nine starts at the track.

Friday night's Bulli Gold Cup is race eight on the program scheduled to go at 9.19pm AESTD.
