Maitland Added To Hunter Racing Zone

CONTROLLING Bodies GRNSW and GWIC have today added Maitland to the Hunter regional racing zone, the first meeting slated for this Monday.

CONTROLLING Bodies Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) and the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC) have added Maitland to the Hunter regional zone, the first meeting slated for this Monday.

Reacting to a significant spike in nominations following the roll-out of the regional racing model to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, meetings at Maitland have been programmed for the next three Mondays.

In a statement on Thursday GRNSW said:

“Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) can announce today that the Maitland track has been included in the Hunter regional zone, and will host a race meeting next Monday, April 6, with meetings also confirmed for the following two Mondays,” the statement read.

“After consultation with the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission (GWIC), it was agreed that Maitland could be added to the Hunter zone, alongside The Gardens, to help cater for those greyhounds in the region which are not suited to the tighter Gardens' circuit.

“The COVID-19 racing schedule has only been in place for just over a week, and while there may have been some issues, GRNSW has stated the schedule will continue to be monitored and changes will be made where possible, appropriate and where they are required.

“The latest addition comes after it was announced additional meetings would be staged this Friday and next Tuesday at Grafton.”
