THE inaugural GRNSW Country Classic will launch at Nowra and Bathurst on Monday with Stockman & Paddock as its naming rights sponsor.

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) revealed that the leading pet food company had agreed to support the series, which with a first prize of $125,000, is the world’s richest middle distance event.

The finale will be staged at Dubbo on March 19 over 605 metres with qualifiers to be decided at regional NSW venues in the next fortnight.

In releasing details of the sponsorship, GRNSW CEO Tony Mestrov said he was delighted a company of Stockman & Paddock’s stature had thrown its support behind NSW greyhound racing.

“We are delighted to be able to continue our wonderful partnership and have this product proudly part of the name of our newest event,” Mestrov said.

“The concept behind the Country Classic – as the name suggests – was to stage an iconic feature event in regional NSW. As an industry we understand the importance and significance of the people of regional NSW and I know that is something we share with Stockman & Paddock.

“Stockman & Paddock is a high-quality product which has Australian beef as it’s number one ingredient, and the product – which is available at a number of our racetracks – has proven to be very popular with our participants.”

Stockman & Paddock Chief Executive Officer David Grant said the company was not only delighted to be associated with such a significant greyhound racing event, but honoured to be the inaugural naming rights’ sponsor.

“In a relatively short time we have forged a great relationship and partnership with Greyhound Racing NSW,” he said.

“Our Stockman & Paddock product, which has specifically formulated complete and balanced nutrition for peak performance, has already been well received by greyhound racing participants in NSW through our partnership with GRNSW, and this is just another step in that association.

“We are big supporters of the greyhound industry at Stockman & Paddock, and we believe to have naming rights’ sponsorship of such a prestigious new event, is a major endorsement for our partnership.”

The opening heats of the Stockman & Paddock Country Classic will be held tonight at Bathurst and Nowra today (Monday), followed by Gosford on Tuesday, Dapto Thursday, Dubbo on Friday, March 4, The Gardens and Grafton on Saturday, March 5, and Temora on Sunday, March 6.

The first four from each heat will qualify for the semi-finals to be staged at Dubbo on March 12, with the first two from each of the four semi-finals advancing to the final on March 19.
