JASON Magri came up to greyhound racing newcomer, Danny Mason, at Bulli on Tuesday night and declared “you've got a good dog there mate”.

That was after Magri's Show It had been beaten two and-a-half lengths by Danny's exciting youngster Jungle Blast (Jungle Deuce-Ruby Herrera) in a 472 metre 5th Grade final.

It was Jungle Blast's fourth win in just six starts.

“Wrapped mate,” said Danny Mason, 47, after Jungle Blast's victory.

“It was fantastic that trainers I did not even know came up to congratulate me after he won.”

Danny is an admitted punter who has been a regular at greyhound meetings for years.

Jungle Blast is only the second greyhound he has trained. The other, Lethal Lexus, won two races in 2022 at Dapto and on the straight at Richmond.

“I was always a huge fan of Jungle Deuce when he was racing and couldn't wait for him to go to stud so I could buy a pup by him,” said Danny.

“I knew Danny Oliver and he told me he was planning on mating Ruby Herrera to Jungle Deuce and I could have the first pick.”

Ruby Herrera had eight pups, whelped out at Bega and Danny headed out to pick his pup.

He used self preservation to make his selection.

“It was 37 degrees the day I turned up to have a look at the litter,” he said.

“There was just one pup laying in the water pool in the paddock and I reckoned he was the most sensible so I picked him.”

Danny got the pup reared at Wyee and educated by Cliff Bell at Dapto.

“I went to see his final trial and he went 17.36 for the 297 metres,” he said.

“Cliff said he would have been happy with 17.50.”

Danny has moved from his previous home at inner city Granville to a much larger site at Guilford.

Jungle Blast won his first three starts at Dapto and Maitland and instantly offers of up to $30,000 came rushing in for the youngster.

However, he's not for sale.

“My plans are to either give him a break or head to Wenty for a 1-4 win series there late in April,” said Danny who runs a carpet cleaning business.
