Masterclass: Sims Hits Temora Meeting For Six

TRAINER Peter Sims was so busy at his Illabo property on Tuesday morning he forgot to watch the first three races at the Temora meeting.

PETER Sims was so busy at his Illabo property on Tuesday he forgot to watch the first three races at Temora.

Pete missed the wins by kennel youngsters Zipper Sky, Zipper It Man and Aeroplane Ellie, all highly impressive first starters in maiden events at Temora.

“I was so busy letting out dogs, feeding pups … you name it,” said Pete. “I totally forgot to watch those first three races.”

Peter Sims had sent kennel workers Jodie and Max McGovern off to Temora with six from the kennel and had hopes for most of them.

By day's end, all six had won … a 100 percent result.

“A 100 percent result,” said Pete. “I've had six over at Temora before but never a 100 percent result.

“I thought the three maidens would win for sure and they did.”

Pennies Forever, Why Tell Tina and Rivello then completed their tasks to give Pete the greatest of days.

“Honestly, I've been so busy here all day, I haven't had time for it to soak in yet,” he said.

“I thought Pennies Forever would win.

“I've been pouring the work into her to get her to run to the line stronger, but without dimming her early pace.

“It's working.

“Why Tell Tina sliced a toe open over at Temora at his latest run which is why he has been off the scene for a while. But, I can tell you he is going to be something that dog.

“He'll get to 25.80 over there. He was two runs short of his top today.”

Rivello took his record to 10 wins and five placings from 18 starts and Sims rates the dog highly.

Peter has been training full time for the past 12 years. It followed stints with Jodie and Andy Lord's kennel learning the ropes.

“I'd also done a stint shearing, drove semis and managed a hotel,” he said.

It was Peter who educated superstar She's A Pearl and sold her on to the Lord kennel.

“We've got probably 40 dogs in the kennels, some in work, a lot of babies coming through,” he said.

While Sims celebrated Tuesday's six winner haul everyone's thoughts were with the trainers which couldn't get to the meeting from flood stricken regions.
