For Ruth and Danielle Matic, Friday night's Group 2 Maitland Cup may just be the start of a very hectic and interesting 12 or so months.

The pair head to Maitland with two live chances in the $40,000 to the winner cup and it's not just about the winner's purse which has the mother and daughter team's interest.

FIELDS AND FORM MAITLAND FRIDAY NIGHT

Siblings Len Me Dad and Peace Keeper won heats of the 450m series on March 9, with Peace Keeper registering 25.00, .02 quicker than his brother a mere .04 slower than Vamoose's best-of-the-day offering (24.96).

The brothers head to this feature on a similar trajectory yet Len Me Dad stepped out for the first time at Goulburn in the Zoom Top maiden series in late July.

He's since won at Bulli in slashing time over 400m and 472m and in coming weeks, will return to Wentworth Park as a stronger, more mature sprinter.

“Len Me Dad is well drawn in the final – he is a safe but not brilliant beginner but wants to rail and has terrific speed,” Ruth Matic said.

“Peace Keeper did not start until he was 22 months of age but always showed genuine quality and won his maiden at Nowra in fast time (20.59) over 365m.

“Both dogs have drawn the right side of the track so to speak but box six (Peace Keeper) is never any good in feature race finals.”

The determination shown by Peace Keeper in his Cup heat win was impressive.

Despite racing in traffic and ‘tight' to the home turn he drew away to score by 2 3/4 lengths by means of the best final section (6.58) of the day.

Aside from success in the cup for Len Me Dad or Peace Keeper the outcome would certainly boost the profile of super sprinter and now first season sire Wow.

“Wow's first pups are 14 months of age and breaking in reports will soon be coming thick and fast,” Ruth continued.

“Wow's dam (Miss All Class) is also Winxette's mum so these boys are testament to the potency of Fernando Bale with that female family.

“Our oldest Wow pups are approaching 13 months old and we will bring them into the kennels in the next couple of weeks to start education.”

Allowing for any traffic congestion on a Friday afternoon, Ruth and Danielle Matic have a 3-hour and-a-bit trip from Canyonleigh on the NSW Southern Highlands to Maitland.

The spacious track suits their boys and both head into the feature as live chances … the trip home, while getting late into the evening, will seem so much quicker should either of the siblings prevail.
