Matt Lands $40,000 Windfall In Rocky Cup

MATT Heilbronn went to the "candy shop" one more time and came home with a $40,000 windfall with Dulceria in the Rockhampton Cup.

MATT Heilbronn went to the “candy shop” one more time and came home with a $40,000 windfall when Dulceria got up in the very last stride to win the Group 3 Rockhampton Cup (510m) on Friday night.

“Dulceria is Spanish for candy shop,” said Matt of the daughter of Zambora Brockie-Cindy Rumble who scored in the Cup by a nose over Jagger Moves with a length and a quarter to Zip Stream in third.

The winner ran a good 29.98 but it was only a few strides from the finish before Matt believed his classy bitch had a chance.

“Rocky is not a track you can come from behind and win, especially in a race like the Cup,” he said.

Dulceria was giving Zip Stream and Jagger Moves, recent Group 3 Bundaberg Cup winner, almost six lengths start coming to the home turn.

“I didn't think she could pick them up,” said Matt.

But Dulceria is nothing but strong in the finish and she grabbed the lead right on the line.

It took her record to 39 starts for 11 wins and 14 placings and her earnings to $123,000.

She had already won the Group 3 Townsville Cup last year when just a pup.

She has been a goldmine for Matt and his family.

“Years ago the prizemoney was never good enough to concentrate only on training greyhounds,” he said. “I helped my dad Des for years.

“But, since the rise in prizemoney, training greyhounds is a great opportunity. Dulceria has paid off my home, pays all the family bills, and has put a few sheds up on the property for the future.

“The prizemoney boost is fabulous. Take both the Townsville and Rocky Cups. They were $25,000 to the winner but now $40,000. That's been an extra $30,000 for us.

“I still work at my day job in floor coverings, but the prizemoney is a huge bonus.”

Matt was high in praise of the bitch he bred by putting four-times winner, royally bred Cindy Rumble, to Zambora Brockie.

Cindy Rumble is a Cosmic Rumble-Dulcinea litter sister to Joyce Rumble the classy Group performer for Steve Kavanagh who has since gone on to produce Group star Louis Rumble.

“Dulceria just loves tripping about,” he said. “We always stay in hotel rooms and she settles in so well, never a worry.”

That “tripping about” will extend early in May to Dubbo where she will take on The Brother Fox.

“With all the delays about Albion Park returning to racing, and a feature race program there uncertain at the moment, the Dubbo race looks perfect for her next,” said Matt.
