Melbourne Cup Winner Up And Running At Stud

LUKE Anderson can be forgiven for being a tad biased, but he believes Melbourne Cup winner Ando's Mac is on the verge of a hugely successful stud career.

LUKE Anderson can be forgiven for being a tad biased, but he believes Ando's Mac is on the verge of a hugely successful stud career.

Anderson was part of the ownership that raced the champion, winner of the Group 1 Melbourne Cup and Vic Peters, whose first progeny to race are just starting to hit the tracks.

“There is a litter in Tasmania from Winklee Terror showing plenty of promise,” said Luke.

Winklee Terror won three races from 55 starts.

But it is the Anderson's own litter from Sillat upon which Luke is basing his early predictions about the stud career of Ando's Mac.

The first of those to race, Seymour Ando's, was a brilliant maiden winner at Gosford last week in a best of the day 22.30.

“Every one of the litter is showing huge potential,” said Luke. “There is a bitch who could be anything going on what she is trialling at the moment.”

Seymour Ando's is trained by Luke's father Frank who said the pup, who will not be two until September, has a wonderful temperament, runs home strongly and has not been fully wound up at this early stage.

Sillat is one of 33 services to Ando's Mac that have been sold.

“Semen has been bought by breeders from Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Tassie, and Charlie Northfield was so happy with a couple of litters he bred recently he came back and bought more semen for the dog,” said Luke.

“When breeders like Charlie are chasing him after seeing what his pups look like, then it says something about them.”

One recent whelping to Ando's Mac was Mayfair Miss, a litter sister to champion Up Hill Jill, who produced two dogs and six bitches to him in February.

“We are very happy with the way this litter is heading and Raelee Shearer tells us she has a litter out of Smiley Sam showing huge potential as well,” said Luke.
