Might Have Been Now A Middle Distance Star
MIGHT Have Been picked the ideal time to return to the winner’s list with a track record breaking win in the Middle Distance Challenge on Thursday.
VERSATILE performer Might Have Been picked the ideal time to return to the winner's list with a track record breaking win in the Ladbrokes Middle Distance Challenge (600m) at Dapto on Thursday night.
In a stunning display, Might Have Been scorched over the Dapto 600 metre journey in a remarkable 33.92s to set a new time standard for the track and distance.
It was the son of Flying Ricciardo and Poco Dorado's first victory since his emphatic win in the NSW National Sprint Championship Final (520m) at Wentworth Park in early August.
But while out of the winner's list in nine starts since, the 15-time winner, third in the G1 National Sprint Championship and Dubbo Country Classic, has been a model of consistency with a string of minors leading into Thursday night's success.
Trained by Minnie Finn, Might Have Been defeated Ayden's Warrior by 2 ¾ lengths with Kangaroo Jack making up solid ground for third another 2 ½ lengths astern.
Might Have Been's feature race success continued the imposing record being amassed by the hugely successful Flying Ricciardo x Poco Dorado litter.
The eight strong litter has now amassed 112 wins from 451 starts at a strike-rate of 25 per cent.
With stake earnings of $803,000, it seems inevitable that they will collectively surpass the magical $1 million barrier down the track.
On Wednesday night at Richmond, the new wave of offspring from Poco Dorado hit the track, with Volare Alto and Subtle Knock going ‘one-two' in a 320 metre maiden.
The pair are by Superior Panama.
