Million Dollar McInerney Made For Stud Success

NOEL Mugavin, responsible for newest stud prospect McInerney, goes about the breeding of greyhounds with a proficiency few can match.

NOEL Mugavin goes about the breeding of greyhounds with a proficiency few can match.

Some do, but Noel is a one-man band, mapping out his breeding program, rearing the pups and these days doing much of the education. He's been doing just that for quite a few years.

Along the way, he's had success … big time success.

McInerney At Stud

In 2010 he mated the handy bitch Born Princess to Velocette to hugely in-breed the resultant litter. The intensity was the Val Matese damline, a line Noel and his own family had been using to get racetrack stars for many years.

Hark back to his sister's superstar Modern Assassin, back to Modern Express and the great Golden Currency, the inaugural Topgun winner, and Velocette himself, as well as Honcho Classic, which went to Ireland to prove himself a stud star.

Noel got G1 winner Born Ali from that Velocette-Born Princess litter and she has been a God-send.

Her progeny have won $2.7 million.

And amazingly, 10 of them have been Group performers.

They already include stud success Benali, her son by Barcia Bale, and he can already boast a Group 1 winner from his only litter to the track.

Noel Mugavin had his big moment on the racetrack, and one of the biggest in a life dominated by AFL success, when last September Noel's home-bred McInerney (Fernando Bale-Born Ali) swept to victory in the Million Dollar Chase.

That greyhound breeding proficiency had paid off big time!

Now McInerney is about to embark on a new career, a stud career, and he already has his half brother Benali's success to provide a successful entre.

The son of Fernando Bale-Born Ali retires after 63 starts for 23 wins and 18 placings earning $1.27 million.

“He's done enough,” said Noel upon announcing his retirement. “And coming on the back of the huge success at stud of his half brother Benali, I have already had plenty of inquiries to use him.”

McInerney was trained by Brendan Pursell when he downed Zipping Kyrgios to win the Million Dollar Chase in a slick 29.50.

Add that to his third in the G1 National Sprint, second in the G1 Topgun, third in the G3 Sandown Shootout and finals berths in The Phoenix, the G1 Temlee and G3 Speed Star and you have a stud dog career beyond question.

He will stand at a stud fee of $2000.

McInerney's pedigree shows line breeding 4×4 to Awesome Assassin, balanced via daughter and son. He is in-bred top the Wheeler family's famed Gail's Beauty family via the direct damline of sire Fernando Bale and through Whiskey Assassin the sire of his 2nd dam.

His mother is intensely in-bred 1×2 to Velocette and Born Lucky who are virtual brother and sister carrying the brothers Black Shiraz and Big Ginger Boy and both tracing to Val Matese through virtual sisters Marthorn Lass and Fancy Gairn.

History already shows sons of Fernando Bale at stud are working best when they mate bitches that bring in proven lines and reinforce their own damline influences.

For McInerney this means a myriad of opportunities at stud.

The simple fact that his mother Born Ali produced G1 stars Benali and Barcali when mated to Barcia Bale means his daughter have to be the first port of call for McInerney's potential stud success.

We have already seen that Fernando Bale is producing superstars when mated to bitches that carry Barcia Bale.

Which also means daughters of Aston Dee Bee and Mepunga Blazer, both sons of Barcia Bale, should be tested with McInerney, and any others by Barcia. The Aston Dee Bee cross with McInerney will duplicate and balance Bombastic Shiraz a proven recipe.

McInerney can mate as many bitches as possible that have more Bombastic Shiraz in their pedigree. Fabregas, Feral Franky and his brother Good Odds Harada, Blazin Bomber, Glen Gallon, Flying Ricciardo, Kiss Me Ketut, Lightning Frank, Mister Twister, Nitro Burst, Zambora Brockie, Spring Gun, Thirty Talks, Bit Chili, Zipping Garth … they all have Bombastic Shiraz in their make-up.

The Mepunga Blazer cross will bring in the proven Fortress/Kinloch Brae cross and this cross is proven the world over.

McInerney's 2nd dam, Born Princess, is bred on the very same Awesome Assassin/Malawi's Prince cross as Collision so this too could be a perfect opportunity for future matings to the Mugavin star.

Velocette's sister went to Collision to produce a Group class litter.

My Bro Fabio daughters not only do spectacularly well when mated to Fernando Bale, but he was mated to McInerney's dam Born Ali to produce four Group class daughters.

It makes sense to mate Fabio bitches to McInerney. Fabio carries a cross of Golden Currency in his damline to link with his own family in Born Ali.

Dyna Double One also has Golden Currency in his direct damline.

Another option will be daughters of David Bale. Benali's one litter to the track, that includes G1 winner First Picked, is out of a daughter of David Bale.

Which means any of the Wheeler-bred lines are ripe for mating to McInerney. How many of them are there … Dyna Villa, Dyna Tron, Bekim Bale, Dyna Double One, Allen Deed, the numbers are endless especially through immediate damlines.

It is particularly interesting that McInerney has NO Brett Lee or Big Daddy Cool in his pedigree.

None of this takes into account the great number of outcross sire influences now having an impact on greyhound breeding in this country.

A dog like McInerney, a million dollar earner, from a stud dog family, with scorching race times, and with a perfectly balanced pedigree means he can be very dominant at stud.

“This is the damline of great stud dogs like Golden Currency, Modern Assassin, Honcho Classic in Ireland, and Velocette,” said Noel Mugavin.

“McInerney raced around 31.5 kilos and that is a perfect weight for a successful stud dog.

“He proved he could beat the best on the biggest stage ever.”
