Miss Envy Sweeps Into National Sprint Frame
Thursday night saw the running's of the state Distance and Sprint Finals for the Nationals racing series and here is a wrap of the results.
THE Steve and Krystal Shinners-trained Miss Envy went within a whisker of breaking the Northam track record in the WA final of the National Sprint on Thursday night.
The daughter of Aston Dee Bee and fabulous producer Miss America went into the final with the Shinners' concerned her run in the heat the week before had flattened her but those thoughts didn't prevail.
Miss Envy came out and ran 29.04, just .03 off the track record when defeating Fire Lighter by 2-1/2 lengths with Barbeque Man another 2-1/4 lengths away in third.
"I will fly to Adelaide with her next Thursday morning and trial her between races that night," Steve Shinners said.
"Then we will fly back home the next day and come back the following Friday morning with the Nationals final the following night.
"It will also give us an opportunity to let her, and her brother Transcendent, have a look at the track with the aim of coming back for the Oaks and Derby.
"In the meantime, the Mandurah Cup is on and it is worth $60,000 this year."
Shinners rates Miss Envy as good as any dog he has raced.
Group 1 WA Galaxy winner, West On Boonie, landed the WA final of the National Distance for Chris Halse, the son of Tommy Shelby-West On Violet now having won 18 races and $348,000.

In Victoria, John Paraskevas had a big night after receiving the provincial strike rate award in the yearly GRV honours.
His emerging staying bitch, Aunt Virginia (Fernando Bale-Quena Dee Air) landed the state final of the Distance in 41.84 at Sandown.
The Sprint final went to Tom Dailly's Smooth Plane (Vulturi-Smooth Bourbski) in 29.36.

In NSW, Ritza Piper heads to yet another Group 1 final after taking out the state final of the Distance at Wentworth Park in 42.06.
The daughter of Ritza Lenny-Ritza Vonnie is the pride and joy of trainer Joe Scerri after 20 wins and $400,000.
Minnie Finn will be heading to Adelaide with Might Have Been (Flying Ricciardo-Poco Dorado) after his win in the state final of the Sprint in a flying 29.39.

In Queensland, the Zammit family dominated the Nationals with Tony Zammit's staying champ Valpolicella landing the Distance in 42.55, while Selena and Mick Zammit head into the Sprint after Cluster ran 30.31 to win the Sprint state final.
Valpolicella (Shima Shine-Seldana) is an amazing stayer with her record now 32 wins and stakes of $1.05 million.
Cluster (Sennachie-Kealoah) continued the dominance of his amazing litter taking his own record to 21 wins and $186,000.

In Tasmania, Group 1 star Raider's Guide was absolutely dominant at Launceston winning the Distance by almost 17 lengths as the $1.05 favourite.
The son of Zambora Brockie-Sacred Shadow is already a multiple Group winner and track record breaker.
The Sprint went to Pat Ryan's Sweet Sundown (Whiskey Riot-Sacred Shadow) in 29.75, the $1.75 favourite.

Hometown favourite, Zinfandel Trace (Barcia Bale-Zinfandel Zara) landed the Angle Park final of the Distance in 43.10 scoring by an amazing 15 lengths for local training great Gavin Harris.
The Sprint final went to Chapel Road (Bernardo-Sunset Senorita) who only got a start as a reserve when winning in 30.49 for Kiah Hurley.
Fahey's Magic and Uncle Tommy will be the wildcard Nationals finalists.

The connections of the New Zealand Sprint and Distance final winners have indicated they will head to Angle Park for the National finals if Qantas comes to the party to allow the dogs to be transported to Australia on upcoming flights.
The NZ Sprint final went to Caterpie Bale (Allen Deed-Dyna Zesty) for Anthony Roberts and the Wheeler family, running 30.78 to win the Addington final.
Garry Cleeve's Know Defence (Mepunga Blazer-Classy Witch) led throughout to win the Distance final in 44.29.
