Mitchell Hands Jedda Maiden Group 1 Finalist

JEDDA Cutlack was named QLD Young Achiever of the year for 2021 on Friday night, but this week could top all that for the youthful trainer.

JEDDA Cutlack was named Young Achiever of the year for 2021 at the Queensland greyhound of the year awards last Friday night, but this week could top all that for the youthful trainer.

“Over the moon to be given that award,” said Jedda. “But, I did not have a big night because there was lots happening on Saturday.”

“Lots happening” was kennel veteran Mitchell Street making his way into the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg final at Wentworth Park, and three of the youngsters, Tungsten Miss, She's Sweet and Red Buzz, making the semi-finals of the Group 3 Ipswich Auction series.

Jedda stayed in Queensland to handle the trio of Auction hopefuls and sent “handler” Tom Tzouvelis to Sydney with Mitchell Street.

“The big decision comes now about what I plan to do this coming weekend,” said Jedda.

“It is my first Group 1 finalist. How can I miss out on having a finalist in the Easter Egg?

“But, we had three semi-finalists in the Auction 431 metre series, I went somewhere else with one of the kennel, and all three missed out on the final.”

Jedda laments that Mitchell Street, second to Fantastic Raven in the semi beaten a length in 29.91, has drawn the six in the Egg final.

“He had the eight in the heat, seven in the semi and now the six in the final,” she said.

“Tom had a choice between two boxes left last night, the two and the six, and he came up with the six.”

Mitchell Street will head back to the Park Ridge kennels for the lead-up to the Egg final.

“He's such a great traveller,” said Jedda. “And he will do better being at home this week.

“Yes, it's a tough final, but he's there and that's all that matters.”

Kennel favourite Tungsten Miss ran 30.85 to win her Auction heat last night at Ipswich.

“She didn't run up to her previous best times, but she copped a check on the corner and the track had been turned over on Thursday so the times were not quick,” said Jedda.

He was particularly pleased She's Sweet finished fourth and got through to the semis.

“She's feeling her way around at the moment which is understandable considering the falls she has had recently,” she said. “We hope for big improvement from her next week.”

The Auction series had only enough runners for three heats. The first five will go into the semis next week and the first four in each will go into the rich final the following week.

Other Auction heats went to Kev Murnane-trained Media Rights in 30.92, and Tarquin Neal's Sushi Mango in 30.71.

In the meantime, Jedda Cutlack has a decision to make … her first Group 1 finalist, or three semi-finalists of an Ipswich Auction series?
