Molly's Bold AB Casey Claims

A group of astute sprinters will come together this Friday when Casino hosts the $2000-to-the-winner AB Casey Memorial Final (484m).

The favourite prediction seems to fall on the shoulders of the second fastest heat winner, Quiksilver Storm, owned and trained by Susan Pickford.

The daughter of Magic Sprite and Sassy Giselle has impressively won on eight occasions from 12 starts, all being at the Northern Rivers venue.

However bolting in as the winner of the fifth heat, and the fastest overall, was Kooringa Molly.

The Mitch Northfield-trained sprinter clocked a show-stopping 27.41 last week during her heat, with five-and-a-quarter lengths on her opponents, and will be looking to replicate such efforts come Friday.

"The two box is very beneficial to her again if she can show the same pace she did last week," Northfield commented.
Weighing in at a mere 24kg, she faces the other finalists as one of the main threats.

"Her first split is decent, and I've heard that her run home time was fairly good too. It's quite unexpected, actually."

The daughter of Magic Sprite and Erin Norris has herself a tidy record of seven wins and eight placings from 22 starts, and Northfield is pleased that she is running into some form again.

"Bad boxes have taken their toll on her," Northfield commented. "She's had eight box sixes from 22 starts!

"If she's able to hold off the dog in the red (Red Coat), and steps like she did in the heat, she'll be a fairly good chance."

Red Coat, who springs from the one box on Friday, is also amongst the chances, having run second to favourite Quiksilver Storm in a handy 27.76.

Kingsbrae Boof, lining up in the white, though expected to begin slowly, will pose a late threat to the leader.
