Mortified Retired, Breeding Barn Awaits

MORTIFIED has been retired after dropping a back muscle in a heat of the Golden Easter Egg and Chris O'Brien is now confronting the task of finding a sire for her.

RACETRACK star Mortified has been retired after dropping a back muscle in a heat of the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park on Saturday night and trainer Chris O'Brien is now confronting the task of finding a sire for her.

Mortified (Fernando Bale-Banjo Tifia) retires after 51 starts for 20 wins, 12 placings and $161,000.

“She is probably due on about August or September so it gives us a bit of time,” said Chris.

“At the moment I'm leaning a couple of ways.

“I've got a litter of Hooked On Scotch's I'm wrapped in, I very much like her for Bernardo because he's proven with her bloodlines, and I also like her for Jungle Deuce.”

Mortified was luckless in major races finishing second in the G1 Dapto Megastar, third in a Million Dollar Chase Consolation and being a finalist in the G1 Australian Cup, G1 National Futurity and the MDC Showdown.

“She had a bit of bad luck in big race finals,” said Chris.

“She's a bit quirky, but she was so good we could put up with that.”

O'Brien's Hooked On Scotch and Jungle Deuce litters are from Notified, a daughter of Fernando Bale-Justifia, the dam a half-sister to Banjo Tifia.

While Mortified is retired, Chris still has her litter sister Quantifiable, a brilliant heat winner over Queensland star All Natural in her Golden Easter Egg heat on Saturday night.

“She's a great trier and a jump and run bitch coming into the Egg in great form right at the right time,” he said.

“She's a better bitch than her mother Banjo Tifia and she made the Egg final when she was racing.

“Quantifiable does need an inside draw though.”

She has won 21 of her 52 starts and earned $142,000.
