Mr Peregrine ‘Underdone' For Million Dollar Return

MR Peregrine makes a long-awaited return to racing at Richmond on Friday night in a regional Million Dollar Chase heat (520m) and John Carruthers is undecided how he will fare.
The son of Barcia Bale and Angel Glow has not started since falling at Bulli back on May 28.
He has raced just nine times for four wins and three seconds for stakes of $33,000 and has already been a finalist in the Group 2 Richmond Derby.
"The fall at Bulli did not result in any major injury," said John whose wife Jane trains the dog.
FIELDS AND FORM RICHMOND FRIDAY
"But, we are always aware of the mental side of what a fall can cause and that is why we decided to take our time with him.
"He goes into his heat on Friday night a bit underdone."
Carruthers said the dog had not had a 500m trial in preparation for the series, but had slipped post to post.
"He is a very good dog but he is going into this race against some very smart dogs," he said.
"You have to expect that if you want to take on such races.
"Kangaroo Jack (drawn the eight) is a really smart race dog and very strong."
Mr Peregrine was brilliant in winning the Robert Smith Memorial Maiden at The Gardens in 29.72. He had run a scorching 29.14 on debut in the heat of the rich maiden series.
Carruthers reports that dam Angel Glow, winner of 16 races and $89,000 during her career on the track, has just whelped five dogs and one bitch in a repeat mating to Barcia Bale.
"And we have just picked up from Queensland a litter by Aston Rupee from Angel Glow's litter sister Flash Heart," Carruthers added.
"We are really impressed by those pups. We got them whelped in Queensland by Jason Schmidt to take advantage of their breeders' scheme.
"She had five dogs and one bitch as well.”
Flash Heart won 10 races and earned $32,000 and is a litter sister also to Proficiency (25 wins, $73,000) and Daley Magic (20 wins, $49,000).
