Mulvihill Quickly Making Winning A Habit

WINTER Bale's victory at Rockhampton on Sunday night is another example of the continued success owner Brad Mulvihill is having with "cheap buys" from Victoria and turning them into prolific earners.
"I paid $700 for Winter Bale and in nine starts for me in Rocky, she has earned $12,000," Mulvihill said.
"I paid $500 for Finnis Bale and she earned $20,000 and then I sold her on to Kevin McIntosh in Brisbane and she won at Albion Park for him.
"And, I paid $4000 for Claretown Sadie and she has won $36,000 for me and is now going into the Rockhampton Cup series."
Mulvihill, enjoying his return to greyhound ownership since a long break from the industry while relocating to Rockhampton, admits to working hard to find those "cheap buys".
"Both Finnis Bale (23kgs) and Winter Bale (27kgs) are not big bitches, but they had come through the Victorian one-turn track process and I reasoned that did not really suit them," he said.
Finnis Bale had won twice in 14 starts in Victoria and Winter Bale once in 32 starts before Mulvihill spotted them for sale.
"Yes, I did my homework," he said.
"With Finnis Bale, she was leading in her races and that is always a good aspect for racing up here.
"But, she had run some nice races against strong opposition that had shown their wares in the city.
"And, Winter Bale was always running on strongly. I thought she needed more ground and she proved that with a 29.96 win at Rocky on Sunday night.
"With Claretown Sadie, she has kept improving and is already a city winner and has won in 29.71 around Rocky in top grade so she goes to the Cup now."
Winter Bale will head to south-east Queensland to be prepared by Warren Nicholls after the Rocky Cup carnival. "We believe she is really starting to find herself and we think she will be a city winner
