Murray Confident of Golden Adelaide Cup Showing

TOP South Aussie trainer Troy Murray has four terrific chances in Thursday night's highly anticipated Group 1 TAB Adelaide Cup heats at Angle Park.

NO trainer in South Australia, and maybe even the country, exudes more confidence in his dogs than Lewiston's Troy Murray.

Troy heads into Thursday night's heats of the Group 1 TAB Adelaide Cup with what he declares are four great chances.

They are Golden Night, Major Major, Defy and Spring Cuervo and Troy says all four are boxed to be right in the mix for their qualifiers.

“I really can't split Golden Night and Major Major as my top chances,” he said.

“They are both going great, both are boxed well with little speed drawn inside them, and I really fancy their chances on Thursday night.”

Golden Night comes into the heats off a 29.58 “dead heat” with Catch The Thief in the Match Race series last week only to finish .0002 second following closer examination of the Finishlynx times.

And Major Major two runs back won the Group 3 South Australian Derby before then brilliantly winning at Murray Bridge to fine tune his Adelaide Cup campaign.

“Golden Night is flying,” said Troy. “But Major Major is a young dog with a huge future. He is an absolute machine. And absolutely nothing gets in his way.”

Veteran galloper Defy also has box three in his Cup heat and Troy says “they will not be able to hold him out if he is anywhere near them on the home turn”.

“We tossed him into the Match Race and he went a bit ordinary,” said Troy.

“But since then I hand-slipped him at Gawler and he went 13.93. The best I have ever had one hand-slip at Gawler was It's Classified and he went 13.90.

“And It's Classified held the track record at Gawler.”

Of Spring Cuervo, Troy says the middle to wide draw is best for him.

“He's going into the race a bit underdone after losing a dew claw,” he said.

“He was flying before that problem.”

Troy won the Adelaide Cup with Miss Spicy back in 2006, a year in which she also won the Group 1 Australian Cup, Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup and Group 3 Interstate Challenge.

Seven heats of the Adelaide Cup are slated for Thursday night where the winners' will join Catch The Thief in Friday week's group 1 decider.
