Nangar Luna Chasing A Gosford Goldmine

Talented bitch Nangar Luna will be chasing a berth in the Gosford Goldmine Final when she contests a heat at Gosford on Tuesday night.

The Gosford Goldmine was introduced in 2011, open to fifth grade greyhounds only, however it's now restricted to greyhounds with one to six wins.

The race was won by champion chaser Bandit Ned in 2022 and this year has attracted a strong contingent in the four heats including Peter Mosman Opal winner Nangar Lucy.

FIELDS AND FORM GOSFORD TUESDAY

Nangar Luna, trained by Joe Mcfayden, was scratched from the Peter Mosman Opal Final after cutting her pad but the new addition to Kariyong kennel has impressed from her first hit-out assistant trainer Kat Ernst said.

"She's got plenty of ability," she said. "The sky's the limit for her.

"When we got her we gave her a few trials at Maitland and they were really encouraging so we took her back there for her first run for us.

"It was over 450m and her run home time that night was off the Richter-scale. Her run home that night was even faster than all the 400m races."

Nangar Luna hasn't started since winning her heat of the Peter Mosman Opal back on July 1 but she has continued to impress the kennel in her lead-up to Tuesday night's heat where she will jump from box four.

"I trialled her at Gosford last week and she ran the best, she broke 25 in a post-to-post, her run home was very good as you'd expect," Ernst said.

"We're happy with her heading into the heats.

"She doesn't have brilliant early pace so I'm just hoping she can get left alone in the early stages and then she can do her thing.

"I'd love to see her find her way to the fence and get a clear run into the first turn and then she can do her thing and be as strong, if not stronger than anything else."

Nangar Luna is a $2.80 favourite for her heat after Nangar Babbles was scratched on Tuesday while Mcfayden's other starter on Tuesday, Belmont Bullet is at $2.15 to win the Beast Unleashed at Stud Stake (388m).

"I think he's the best dog in the race but box four is absolute trash for him," Ernst said. "He's hit or miss at the start.

"If he nails the start he's capable of going sub 22 if the track is right but we just have to cross our fingers and hope with him at the start."
