No Adelaide For Victorian Bound Tommy Shelby

SUPERSTAR sprinter Tommy Shelby will miss the upcoming Group 1 Adelaide Cup series at Angle Park but instead will be flown to Victoria.

SUPERSTAR sprinter Tommy Shelby will miss the upcoming Group 1 Adelaide Cup at Angle Park but instead will be flown to Victoria.

The son of Fernando Bale and Serena Fly High has a calf injury which will keep him on the sidelines for at least three to four weeks.

Part-owner and trainer Steve Withers declared he was sending Tommy Shelby to Victoria with a dual purpose.

“I want Kel Greenough to check out the injury for us,” Wither said.

“Kel is the master at those sorts of things and we want to get his advice.

“But the dog will also go to Meticulous Lodge for most of the week he will be in Victoria and continue to have semen collected for his stud career.”

Tommy Shelby has not raced since August 28 when winning a FFA at Cannington.

Withers found some concern in a blood count the dog underwent in the following week.

He has since hurt the calf while galloping in preparation for his return to racing.

“Primarily I want to get a second opinion on the injury, but also get semen collected while he is there,” Wither said.

All things being equal, Tommy Shelby is expected to be front and centre for the Group 1 Topgun, Group 1 Melbourne Cup with a berth in the inaugural The Phoenix a possibility also.
