NZ Star: Sir Duggie Simply A Sprint Sensation

STAR NZ short-courser finshed runner-up at start 100 on Friday, the son of Lochinvar Marlow boasting 54 wins for record breaking trainer Lisa Cole.

It would come as no surprise if star short-courser Sir Duggie isn't on speaking terms with his kennelmate Bigtime Shine.

You see, the Lisa Cole prepared Sir Duggie took his place at Hatrick over the 305m last Friday evening to contest his 100th race.

He was chasing his 55th career win.

A moderate start didn't aid the claims of Sir Duggie and by the time he found himself in clear racing air, Bigtime Shine had flown away, and in doing so he pooped on Duggie's party by leading home his "mate" by a six length margin.

The 305m dash was the first race the pair contested for the new 21019/20 Kiwi racing season, however Sir Duggie holds the kennel bragging rights from the just completed 2018/19 racing season.

Sir Duggie completed that season as the points based New Zealand Sprinter of the Year (up to 449m). It was a massive season for the Cole kennels, setting a new national trainers' record when mentoring a phenomenal 861 race winners, finishing with $2,086,345 in stake earnings.

Sir Duggie was a key contributor to that success by winning 24 short course sprints throughout the season for the team from his 42 races during the term.

His biggest victory came when he annexed the $30,000 Galaxy Sprint title over the 295m dash at Group 1 level during the NZ Cup meeting at Addington.

Injury intervened when he started as the warm favourite in the other Kiwi hosted Group 1 dash – the $30,000 Railway Sprint over 318m at Manukau which saw him being tipped out for a seven week spell.

It was business as usual when Sir Duggie resumed as he went on to secure another six Hatrick 305m wins.

Obviously Sir Duggie is now in the twilight of his stellar career, however you can expect this George Sherri owned April 2015 whelped son of Lochinvar Marlow and Champness Gal to keep adding to the $102,387 stakes tally which his 54 wins and 27 minor placings has yielded from 100 appearances.

Pawnote: Check out Sir Duggie racing at Hatrick this Friday – race 5 at 4.39pm (eastern). He will be jumping from trap five, while Bigtime Shine will hop away from the six trap.
