O'Brien Has A Wenty Double In His Sights

IN form Nowra Hill conditioner Chris O’Brien has his sights firmly set on the rich Southern Stars race series at Goulburn later this month.

NOWRA trainer Chris O'Brien has his sights on the rich Southern Stars series later this month but first things first and he's chasing a Wentworth Park double on Saturday.

O'Brien will rug up the litter mates Quantifiable and Modern Swinger.

Quantifiable is the first to go in the Follow Redden Photo Video Stakes (520m).

The winner of 11 of her 22 starts arrives back at Wentworth Park of two slashing best of night wins at Dapto over 297m and Goulburn over 350m.

"She's going really well and is boxed to lead on Saturday night," O'Brien said. "It looks a winnable race for her.

"I couldn't be happier with how she is going and fitness won't be a problem stepping up to 520m."

Modern Swinger returns to Wentworth Park where he's an eight time winner from 15 starts and he goes into Saturday's contest after coming out on top of superstar She's A Pearl in the Dapto Silver Collar on June 29.

"I think he will be hard to beat as well," O'Brien said.

"Like his sister he's got the three and if he steps away cleanly he should be leading and from there he's hard to beat.

"I don't see why he won't run well either."

After Saturday night's meeting, O'Brien plans to head back to Goulburn next Friday for the qualifying heats of the $50,000-to-the-winner Southern Stars Heats over 440 metres.

"Quantifiable is a really versatile dog and she's been to Goulburn a few times while Modern Swinger trialled there after the last race last week and I was happy with how he went," O'Brien said.

Meanwhile, O'Brien also reported that the star of the Fernando Bale-Banjo Tifia litter, Mortified is on her way back after suffering a pin muscle injury back in May.

"She's had a three slips up the straight and she's coming along really well," he said.

"I'll give her one more hit out up the straight and then back to the circle.

"Nothing's locked in for her at the moment, she'll tell us when she's ready to return to the races but I can't wait to get her back."
