STAR Queensland sprinter Orchestrate has checked out fine and will stay in Victoria for another week to contest a race at Sandown Park.

Orchestrate (Barcia Bale-Speculate) was sent south by trainer Tony Brett to the Jason Thompson kennel and trialled brilliantly in preparation for last Saturday night’s heats of the Group 1 Australian Cup.

But he was scratched on race morning after showing signs of slight soreness.

“He showed the soreness on the Friday night, but Jason gave him until race morning to check him out again,” said breeder and part-owner Tom Kinnear.

“But he was still not right so in a discussion between Jason and Tony they decided it best to scratch him.

“He had pulled up well from his work in the week leading up to the heats of the Cup.

“No one could work out what was wrong.

“He was checked out on Monday by Jason’s vet and everything is fine with him.”

Plans now are to trial Orchestrate at Sandown Park on Sunday and then race him the following Thursday night.

“By Sunday morning he was fine,” said Tom. “Jason said he was galloping around the paddock.

“No one can put it down to anything specific. He was scratched as a precautionary measure.”

Orchestrate, winner of 17 of his 33 starts and $155,000 in stakes, is a multiple Group winner with a career best of 29.66 around Albion Park.

“After he runs at Sandown he will head home to Tony Brett and then the target will be the Golden Easter Egg,” said Kinnear.

“Obviously he will need to trial at Wenty in preparation for the series.”

Kinnear reports dam Speculate is safely in pup to champion sire Fernando Bale.

“She is due in the middle of March,” he said.

Most of the pups will be for sale at weaning. Speculate’s second litter, by Aston Dee Bee, includes Decimate an Australian Cup heat runner last weekend for Jason Thompson and boom youngster Litigate, a 15-lengths heat winner of the Vince Curry Maiden at Ipswich for Tony Brett.
