BRETT Bravo heads to Adelaide on Thursday night with top sprinter, royally bred Paddy Wants Pats, on a mission to clinch a stud career for the track star.

Paddy Wants Pats is by sprint sensation and leading stud dog Black Magic Opal from the multiple Group 1 winning bitch Striker Light.

FIELDS AND FORM ANGLE PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

Few dogs can match his bloodlines and Bravo, whose wife Kelly owns and trains the star, is aware a Group 1 victory would help seal a stud career.

The winner of 17 races and $203,000, Paddy Wants Pats has run second in the Group 1 Australian Cup and been a finalist in the Group 1 Perth Cup.

He has drawn the seven in his heat of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup on Thursday night and is coming off an injury worried month.

“He pulled up sore in a wrist after winning at The Meadows in August,” said Brett.

“We fixed it, ran him at Bendigo but he pulled up sore in it again. This time we made sure it was right.

“He has been trialling the place down since then.”

Bravo rates the dog so highly he has been pestering the Westervelds, Paul and Michelle, about taking him at stud.

“He is an absolute ripper,” said Brett.

“And, he is the perfect dog to go to stud among a myriad of daughters of Barcia Bale and Fernando Bale desperately looking for bloodlines that are the best available, but different from what they offer.

“He really has a pedigree to suit at stud.

“And he is a pretty fair dinkum chaser to go with it.”

Sprint great Striker Light has a one-pup litter by Barcia Bale just racing and another by Fernando Bale that are seven months.

They are rippers,” said Brett.

MILLION Dollar Chase limelighters Brendan Pursell and Noel Mugavin will also combine for an Adelaide Cup assault with veteran Call Me Buster (My Bro Fabio-Call Me Gee) the winner of 11 races.

“He's getting to the end of his career,” said Brendan. “But Noel and I agreed he deserved a shot at the heats.

“And I am taking Who Told Shorty for the Cup, so Call Me Buster can come too.”

Pursell said the 530m at Angle Park would suit Call Me Buster who is strong at the finish. He takes on Dusty Bourbski in the heat.

Who Told Shorty (Raw Ability-Who Told Lindylu) chases the Adelaide Cup from box four in his heat and meets classy Photo Man and star local Rushes Raw.

“He's been going great in the past six weeks,” said Brendan.

“His couple of runs at Wentworth Park during the Chase series were very good.

“There is a big race win in this dog for sure.

“But, he is a mad railer and that can affect him in his races.”

Who Told Shorty has already been a finalist in the G1 Maturity and is a half brother to the great Simon Told Helen.

Pursell reports MDC winner Mcinerney had pulled up “fantastic”.

“The tripping to and from Wentworth Park has not had one bit of impact on him,” he said.

“Our immediate plan is to sit down and map out a future program.

“Races like the Topgun, the Shootout, the Melbourne Cup and The Phoenix are all on the horizon for him now.”
