Peter Mosman Runner-By-Runner Analysis

Here is our runner-by-runner analysis of the eight finalists in the Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal final (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

The $75,000-to-the-winner Peter Mosman Opal (520m) is a Group 1 age classic for bitches and the 2023 renewal will be run at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Three heats were run last Saturday and the Jack Smith-trained Miss McGraw was the fastest qualifier recording the slick time of 29.63 seconds.

The daughter of Shima Shine has won four of her eight starts and will jump from Box 2 in the final.

Here is the runner-by-runner analysis of the field in the 2023 Peter Mosman Opal.

1 – BELLA UNA

Feral Franky x Khatanga Eve (Black Bitch) $3.30

Showed good burn to cross Nangar Lucy and lead her heat in a 5.48 section. Stopped the clock at 29.73 with an 11.77 run home. Prior to her heat win she stopped the clock at a smart 29.54 at Dubbo over the 516m trip. Looks like she will be suited in Box 1 but not sure she has the pace to lead.

VERDICT: One of the leading contenders.

2 – MISS MCGRAW

Shima Shine x Nangar Diva (Blue Bitch) $2.80

Fastest qualifier running 29.63 seconds with a first split of 5.40 which was also the fastest of the heats, run home 11.72. She's won three of her past four starts including a slashing 516m win at Dubbo in 29.40. Reliable beginner with the speed to lead.

VERDICT: Does it at both ends, the one to beat.

3 – NANGAR LUCY

Fernando Bale x Fancy Dancer (Blue Bitch) $5

Began well but was out sped to the first mark in her heat by Bella Una. Stuck to the task for second, running home in 12.80. She too has done most of her lead-up racing at Dubbo where she has a PB of 29.47 seconds for the 516m trip. Reliable beginner but not sure she can cross the pace inside her.

VERDICT: Hard to see her beating the two inside her.

4 – ZIPPING ROUSEY

Feral Franky x Zipping Tayla (Fawn Bitch) $5

Chased home Miss McGraw in the heat with a run home of 11.80. Has a PB here of 29.68 and she has gone 5.45 early, at her only previous run from this box. She has become a risky beginner in recent starts.

VERDICT: Place claims appear best.

5 – SUBLIME ETHICS

Barcia Bale x White Sox Ethics (Black Bitch) $16

Consistent chaser that booked her place in the final when finishing third behind Bella Una. In four Wentworth Park starts she is yet to miss a place, with a PB of 30.07 seconds and hasn't broken 5.50 to the mark.

VERDICT: Looks outclassed.

6 – ZIPPING FOXY

Feral Franky x Zipping Tayla (Fawn Bitch) $31

The most experienced dog in the race having had 14 starts and she finished second to Nangar Luna to book her place in the final. In seven Wentworth Park starts she's been victorious once and placed another five times and her PH is 30.17.

VERDICT: Not good enough.

7 – ELSESSER

Fernando Bale x Disco Bolero (Black Bitch) $21

Finished third behind Nangar Luna in her heat but she appeared to knuckle in her first couple of strides. The heat was her first Wentworth Park start and she is open to improvement both to the mark and overall.

VERDICT: If there's to be a surprise, this is the dog.

8 – NANGAR LUNA

Barcia Bale x Little Nangar (Blue Bitch) $15

Most experienced dog in the race having had 14 starts and won her heat in 30.07 seconds, run home of 11.86. Has a PB here of 30.04, the worry for her is Box 8 as her best first split time in three runs is a steady 5.67.

VERDICT: Badly boxed.
