QUEENSLAND'S 2021 greyhound of the year, Spotted Elk, has come on season and will be mated to promising young stud dog Hooked On Scotch.

A source close to the Graham and Leanne Hall kennel confirmed this today.

The daughter of Paw Licking-It Gets Better retired after a stellar career of 40 starts for 17 wins and 11 placings for $238,000.

While she won the Listed Queensland Flame to get into the final of the inaugural running of The Phoenix, it was her gallant second to Wow She's Fast in that showpiece that stamped her career.

She was also second in the G2 Ipswich Cup and a finalist in the G1 Gold Bullion, G1 Temlee and G3 Gold Ticket.

She comes from a litter of five named offspring and all five have been smart winners, the other standout being Group star Extra Malt (31 wins, $246,000).

The mating to Hooked On Scotch brings in a great degree of intensity.

It links Barcia Bale and It Gets Better which are both bred on the Go Wild Teddy sireline with the brothers Hallucinate and Where's Pedro in their respective dames.

But, the mating also introduces a Elite State/Solve The Puzzle cross in both Knocka Norris (damsire of Hooked On Scotch) and Paw Licking (sire of Spotted Elk).
