Postman Pat Likely For A Nationals Assault

EMERGING superstar Postman Pat is more than likely heading toward the Victorian heats of the coveted Group 1 Nationals Sprint Series.

Emerging star Postman Pat is more than likely heading toward the Victorian heats of the Nationals Sprint Series.

Postman Pat returned to trainer Jason Thompson's kennels last Sunday following his gallant second to Elite Machine in the $1m Group 1 Brisbane Cup final at Albion Park.

"When we got home and we were talking about the race we came to the conclusion that you can run second and get more out of it than going to the front and winning," Thompson said.

"I think because of that run he derived the recognition of the type of dog that he is.

"He's not a one hit wonder or one dimensional, can't lead, can't win type. He put that to rest.

"He's just a chaser.

"To see the effort that he put in we couldn't have been any prouder of the dog."

Thompson said the son of Hooked On Scotch had an easy time since returning home but he's winding back up and will return to the races in the weeks ahead.

"I'm not 100 per cent committed to when and where his next start will be yet," he said.

"It could be as early as Thursday at Sandown but if not it will be the following week."

Thompson said Postman Pan has been domiciled in Victoria 90 of the 120 days leading up to the August 5 heats making the dog eligible to represent Victoria in the trans-Tasman series.

"It's not a race I ever really target but it's there, it's coming up and it will probably suits his program going forward," Thompson said.

"That's the next major race on the calander and at this stage he'll be aimed at the Nationals.

"The heat and final is at The Meadows and that makes it appealing."
