Preview: Cherokee Outlaw Set For Triumphant Return

HE has not raced at Wenty for almost six months but Cherokee Outlaw only needs to begin cleanly to make a triumphant return on Wednesday.
HE has not raced at Wentworth Park for almost six months but Cherokee Outlaw only needs to begin cleanly to make a triumphant return in Wednesday night's 520m Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Masters Stakes at headquarters.
That's the opinion of Brad Field, whose wife Charmaine owns and trains Cherokee Outlaw, drawn in box seven.
“If he gets away well I think he will win,” Field said.
Cherokee Outlaw became eligible for veterans' races last month and after two seconds over a less suitable 400m at Maitland he won over 450m in a slick 25.17 there on November 21.
Cherokee Outlaw has won three of eight starts at Wentworth Park and when he won there on New Year's Day he posted his personal best figures of 29.91.
When he recorded that slick time Cherokee Outlaw came from box eight, indicating his liking for outside draws.
Trainer Jason Magri has several candidates at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night with his best prospects looming as Zipping Digby, Zambora Ted and Zipping Kansas.
Zipping Digby has box eight in the Cara MacAlister's Birthday Bash Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and will be seeking to maintain his flawless record.
After leading all the way to win a 520m Wentworth Park Maiden on October 5, Zipping Digby has won each of two Dapto 520m appearances, from boxes one and seven.
“He has box eight at Wenty but he won't crash to the rails, he will run straight,” trainer Magri said.
“I really like this dog, he has good traits,” Magri's Richmond 401m record holder Zambora Ted has box two in the Ladbrokes Switch Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, after failing to beat a rival home in his Wentworth Park 520m debut on November 16.
“He got trapped wide at the first turn and got hammered twice in that Wentworth Park race so I'm glad he has drawn near the fence on Wednesday,” Magri said.
“Since that first Wenty run I have given Zambora Ted a 520m trial at Richmond and he went good, so he can run the distance.”

FIELDS AND FORM WENTWORTH PARK WEDNESDAY

Zipping Kansas is resuming from a spell in the gotcha4life.org Stakes, a 520m Free-For-All, but while he is regarded as being among Australia's top long-distance performers, he is capable of sprinting well fresh.
Zipping Kansas has won five of 10 Wentworth Park 520m outings and Magri said: “He is going well and is ready to run a good race.”
After putting together four wins and a third from five starts Zipping Sterling was a flop at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but the son of Zipping Garth gets his chance to atone in Wednesday night's Christmas at WP December 17 Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.
Minnie Finn, whose husband John trains Zipping Sterling said: “He is not badly boxed in five on Wednesday because he likes to use a bit of the track.
“But we were very disappointed with his unplaced run in Tarawi Ferrari's race at Wentworth Park on Saturday.
“He appeared to knuckle over soon after the start but never got going after that.
“When we checked Zipping Sterling over the following morning there was not a thing wrong with him, he pulled up perfectly, so there is no real explanation as to why he went so poorly.”
Wednesday night's best bet should be the superbly drawn Mr Determine, who has box two in the WP Christmas Buffet Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.
Mr Determine, a keen railer with brilliant early pace, should have no trouble going straight to the lead as the Jason Magri-trained Zipping Demand, who has box one, is notoriously slow early.
Trained by Michelle Sultana, Mr Determine has won three of his four races from box two and is a winner of two from three Wentworth Park appearances.
