THREE-time country cup winner Ferdinand Boy headlines Saturday night’s star-studded Group 2 Bendigo Cup heats.

By 2015 Bendigo Cup winner Fernando Bale, Ferdinand Boy has been the dominant force on the provincial cups circuit winning the Ballarat, Shepparton and Healesville Cups in 2021.

However trainer David Geall will need to have his charge at his brilliant best in a series boasting not only group 1 stars Tiggerlong Tonk and Qwara Bale, but also some of the sport’s brightest prospects in what is shaping as one of the most enticing renewals in the Bendigo Cup’s 63 year history.

Heading the TAB all-in market is Jason Thompson-trained pair Rebellious and Typhoon Sammy.

Rebellious rounded out his Cup preparations with consecutive best of night wins at Sale and Geelong, improving his career record 13 wins from 22 starts.

Typhoon Sammy couldn’t have been more impressive since arriving in Thompson’s Pearcedale kennels in August, leading all of the way in all four of his Victorian starts to win in best of night times.

FIELDS AND FORM BENDIGO SATURDAY NIGHT

Included in those performances was a slashing 23.43 gallop two starts ago over the Bendigo Cup track and distance (425m) – just one tenth of a second outside of the track record.

One of the most intriguing heats of the night sees last start Warragul track record breaker Paua Of Buddy meet a resurgent Music Event in the first leg of the quaddie.

All six of Paua Of Buddy’s wins have been in the fastest time of the night though he was well beaten in his only start at the track, while Music Event returned from an eight-week layoff to defeat defending Cup champion Yozo Bale at this track and distance, running to within half-a-length of the track record.

The first of eight Bendigo Cup heats will jump at 7.15pm with the winner of each heat to progress to the $50,000 Group 2 final.
