PREVIEW: Group 2 Horsham Cup Heats

Six heats of the Group 2 Locks Constructions Horsham Cup (485m) will be decided Friday afternoon featuring some of Victoria's best one-turn sprinters.

RACE 4 – heat 1 (4.03pm)

Betting has this as a two-dog race between OAKVALE BEAUTY (5) and ZAMBORA LOU (7) and fair to say the form guide reads it the same way. Oakvale Beauty is a group winner coming out of much stronger races while Zambora Lou has rattled off five sizzling best of meeting wins, including a near record Shepparton success last time out. Leaning Oakvale Beauty ever so slightly with the experience at this level but it promises to be a fantastic race.

RACE 5 – heat 2 (4.24pm)

Haven't minded the performances of BARCIA PRINCE (1) and from the inside he looks a great chance of returning to the winner's list on what may very well be a big afternoon for Jeff Britton. Should have the speed to hold the inside and grab a margin on RAZOR SHARP (4) and SECURITY CODE (8) who look the other major players. Razor Sharp makes his Horsham debut and expect he laps up the wide open spaces and long straight. Look for him to charging home.

RACE 6 – heat 3 (4.52pm)

Plenty of intrigue in this heat with FLYNN (3) eyeing a return to winning form. Worth noting his one track form is very good and at around the $2.60 mark happy to go his way with a bit in his corner. SNAG'S MCKENZIE (4) looks over the odds at $7 so at the price happy to have him in for second while Jeff Britton's duo of SPEARHEAD (1) and MEPUNGA WONDER (2) come into the race with huge claims as well. Both have won their two most recent starts in fast time. Terrific race.

RACE 7 – heat 4 (5.19pm)

At the better value with MEPUNGA PEGASUS (7) to turn the tables on ALLUSION (1) after the pair met recently at Geelong where the latter scored in dashing style. Three runs back Mepunga Pegasus ran a huge race at Sandown to just go down in fast time and from the wide draw in the small field today keen expect he makes his presence felt. No knock on the red he's hugely talented while ULTIMATE BLING (6) is right in the mix as well fresh off a sizzling 29.31 Sandown win last week.

RACE 8 – heat 5 (5.37pm)

Most interesting race of the day. We see the return of top flight sprinter JEBRYNAH (6) stepping out for the first time since defeating Whiskey Riot in a group 1 heat at The Meadows last July. Trialled well at Sale recently in preparation for his return. But to win he'll need to knock over TIGGERLONG TONK (7) one of the brightest young pups coming through the ranks. Betting has it even money take your pick which is a fair assessment. Purely with the race fitness under his belt I'm seven from six. Another ripper spectacle anticipated.

RACE 9 – heat 6 (6.04pm)

TIME TO TALK (6) boasts 22 wins from 43 starts and more importantly has been racing brilliantly of late and she should lead this heat merry dance. The other speed will come from MEPUNGA DANIEL (2) and if he happens to hold the green out then the race changes complexion completely but I'd prefer his chances had he drawn wide, or at least, outside the green. Comeback chaser DYNA CHANCER (7) will be working home hard suited by the reduced field.
