Pump It Simply Sensational In Queensland Futurity

COMEBACK owner-trainer Mark Saal is faced with an embarrassment of riches for Group 2 Queensland Futurity winner Pump It.

The daughter of Collision and Simply An Angel ran 30.03 to rattle home to win the Futurity at Albion Park on Thursday night beating Crazy Cool and Mayoress to give Saal his first group winner.

“Unfortunately, she misses out on a start in the National Futurity at Wentworth Park by just three days,” said Saal of Pump It's future.

“But there are lots of good races coming up for her right here in Queensland.

“I will probably head towards the Golden Sands and in the New Year she might be ready for a race like the Gold Cup over 710 metres.”

Saal is amazed at just how long Pump It has taken to mature into the complete racing package.

“In her first 20 starts she won three races, even though one of those was in a class record, but in her latest 18 starts she has won 10,” he said.

“I've said before, she is the greenest dog I've ever had.”

Pump It was one of a few pups Saal bought when he decided to get back into greyhound racing a few years ago.

And, he came across Pump It by chance.

“Rob Essex wanted to buy a bitch from the litter and there were two black bitches to be bought,” said Mark. 

“I rang Rob and he asked what were their ear brands. He picked the other bitch and left me with the bitch who now races as Pump It.”

Saal has had a number of Group finalist when last in training and been placed at Group 1 level, but Pump It is his first Group winner.

“I can't believe how sound this bitch is,” he said. 

“And, that augurs well for her as a broodbitch. Her mother Simply An Angel is a sister to Thirty Talks and his Group winning sister Split Image.

“A sister to Simply An Angel and Split Image is Motel Girl, the dam of Mr America which has huge wraps on him in Victoria.

“It pretty well means Pump It could be something special as a broodbitch.”
