Punters Seeing Red After Gawler Program

AS Harry Trengove headed to the boxes at Gawler on Wednesday with Winkler in the final event, it would be understandable if he felt pressure.

AS youthful Harry Trengove headed to the boxes at Gawler on Wednesday with $2.40 favourite Winkler in the final of 12 races, it would be understandable if he felt at least a small degree of pressure.

Harry, and his owner mate Kevin Wallis, had Winkler the favourite in the 400 metre 5th grade.

Normally, a 400m 5th grade late in the day at Gawler on a Wednesday would not necessarily demand concern.

But Winkler had the rails and in the previous 11 races, eight of the red runners had won.

All of a sudden “the odds” were piling up on Harry, Kevin and Winkler.

Winkler began “OK” and got in behind early leader Global Glory. He copped a check over the back, got shuffled up soon after and turned for home with a task to do.

He did it though … winning by a NOSE.

Gawler, Wednesday, nine winners of the 12 races exited from box one.

“Harry bought him in a deal,” said his dad Clint after the box one victory. “He bought another and got Winkler thrown in for an extra thousand bucks.”

Harry and Kevin were over the moon.

“Massive win,” said Harry. “Kevin was really pumped after the win. He even jumped the fence took the dog and hosed him down after the race.

“The dog tries his heart out.”

The box one winners on the day were: 1 Under Siege, 2 Aching, 4 Beauty You, 5 Velocity Nikki, 6 Nikita, 7 Hoogley, 8 Basil Brush Rose, 11 Hey Grace, 12 Winkler.
