Puppy Auction A Perfect Pathway Into Ownership

IT'S just three weeks until the second Greyhound Racing NSW Puppy Auction set to be staged at Richmond on Sunday, May 25.

IT'S just three weeks until the second Greyhound Racing NSW Puppy Auction at Richmond on May 25.

Last year's inaugural auction was a raging success which saw more than $1.27m in sales with a sale average of just over $9000, while 22 of the 124 lots sold also changed hands for $5000 or less.

"We re-introduced the Puppy Auction last year because it was felt there was a genuine void in that space, and the decision was vindicated by the support from both vendors and buyers," GRNSW CEO Steve Griffin said.

"While there will undoubtedly be some high-priced lots, there will be affordable pups for all budgets."

This year there are 169 lots in the catalogue with pups from 55 different litters, aged between 10 months and four months.

When it comes to the breeding of the puppies set to go under the hammer, the best greyhound racing has to offer will be represented.

Australia's best sires, Fernando Bale (3 litters), Barcia Bale (2 litters), Bernardo (11 litters), Aussie Infrared (3 litters), Feral Franky (7 litters), Tommy Shelby (10 litters), Aston Rupee (2 litters) and Shima Shine (2 litters) make up a large part of the catalogue.

Some of the sport's best bred pups will be on offer at the GRNSW Puppy Auction

The dam side of the pedigrees are also some of the best you'll find in the Southern Hemisphere.

Superstar race dogs like National Sprint winner and Easter Egg runner-up Good Odds Cash (3 lots), Fantastic Raven (3 lots), Yuko Girl (5 lots), Coco Model (5 lots), Ibrox Wildfire (1 lot), On The Rocks (4 lots) and a host of others are represented.

Add to them the list of proven broods like Rasheda (1 lot), the dam of Wentworth Park track record holder Dalwhinnie, Caitlyn Keeping (2 lots), the dam of Cindy Keeping and Return Mac and Classy Aria (6 lots), the dam of Miss Zig Zag.

And those closely related to some of the greatest to grace the track – Rainbow Dancer (8 lots) and She's Salacious (1 lot) are litter sisters to future Hall of Famer She's A Pearl and Ziggy Star (4 lots), a litter sister to Miss Ezmae.

"We are also looking to help first time owners by supplying details of prospective trainers and also with many pups giving the new owners the option of their pup being reared with the current owner until it's ready to move to the trainer," Griffin said.

"We want to make this whole process a simple one to encourage new people to get involved."

Pups sold through the auction are eligible to contest the 2026 Puppy Classic Race Series where more than $210,000 will be up for grabs.
