Puppy Classic Favourite On High Alert

WA Puppy Classic favourite West On Brae has a special place in the Chris Halse/Linda Britton kennels and it's not because he is unbeaten in four race starts.

SATURDAY night's WA Puppy Classic favourite West On Brae has a special place in the Chris Halse/Linda Britton kennels and it's not because he is unbeaten in four race starts.

The son of Kinloch Brae-High Recall will go into the Cannington 520m final favourite after running the fastest of the heats last week with a 29.94 victory over kennelmate Our Seabrook.

“He's a magnificent dog, great type, and we think the world of him,” said Linda Britton.

“But he is a barker and that can test our patience.”

The Halse/Britton kennels are split into four with a large feed room in the centre. There are a series of kennels in the feed room which house the broodbitches on the property.

“But, we have had to move West On Brae into these kennels,” said Linda.

“Once there, he can see everyone going about their jobs and he is happy. He settles immediately. Once he is fed, he goes back out into the kennels with the other race dogs.”

Linda says West On Brae is a “nice pup” who has not put a foot wrong in his four starts to date.

“He is not brilliant away, but once he hits the ground he is off,” she said.

“He has a ton of pace.”

Linda is reluctant to name a danger but believes her own dog Our Seabrook could be it.

“She has won at Cannington in 29.66 and if she ran up to that she would be very hard to beat,” she said.

“Although, West On Brae beat Our Seabrook fair and square in the heats last week.”

Linda named the Fernando Bale-Shared Equity after her former thoroughbred star Seabrook who won the G1 Champagne Stakes and the Sweet Embrace Stakes and was also placed in eight other Group events.

“We had a share in her and she was wonderful for us,” said Linda. “She was sold to Japan as a broodmare.

“I always wanted to name one of our dogs after her, but we had to settle for Our Seabrook.

“We also part-owned Burning Passion the winner of two Group 3s at Randwick. We have named a sister to Our Seabrook after Burning Passion.”

Linda also reports grand staying bitch Grace Ali (My Bro Fabio-Born Ali) has been retired after wins in the G2 WA Oaks and G3 The Miata.

She won 21 races and $230,000 for breeder-owner Noel Mugavin and Halse and Britton will keep her on a breeding deal with Mugavin. It is planned she be mated to champion sire Barcia Bale.

Her G1 winning mother Born Ali produced G1 stars Barcali and Benali in her litter by Barcia Bale.

Grace Ali is a litter sister to Sweet As Emm (18 wins, $121,000), Rasheda (15 wins, $104,000) and Rose Ali (20 wins, $55,000).

Britton said she was also inclined in the future to mate Grace Ali to either of the US stud dogs KC And All and Bella Infrared.
