RACING at Shepparton has come to a standstill after news of a Covid-19 outbreak in the region.

Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) took the proactive step on Saturday to cease operations at the venue in a bid to further protect racing following an escalation of cases in the Shepparton area.

“Greyhound racing and trialling will not be conducted at Shepparton until further notice due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the region,” a GRV statement read.

“It means the club’s twilight race meeting scheduled for Monday 23 August has been transferred to Bendigo with updates to follow on other schedule changes.

“Given the fluidity of change around Victoria, a timeline on the reopening of the Shepparton track will not be announced until further information comes to hand.”

On Saturday it was revealed Victoria had recorded 77 new Covid cases with Regional Victoria to be plunged into lockdown from 1pm on Saturday, bringing it into line with metropolitan Melbourne.
