Record Prizemoney For Australian Cup

THE MGRA has announced that their flagship event, the Group 1 Australian Cup, will be worth a whopping $300,000 to-the-winner from 2020 and beyond.

THE Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA) is delighted to announce that the winner of the Group 1 2020 TAB Australian Cup will receive a record $300,000 (up from $250k in 2019) after the Club's Directors voted in favour of a stakes increase.

MGRA Chairman Eddie Caruana said the Board voted unanimously to increase the prizemoney levels for the Club's showcase event.

"The MGRA understands the importance of providing aspirational opportunities for all existing and potential greyhound stakeholders. It's important that the sport has those life-changing races for owners and trainers to dream of and aspire towards.

The industry has undergone a lot of positive change over the past few years and we hope that raising the prizemoney attached to the Group 1 TAB Australian Cup reaffirms to the industry that we as a Club remain committed to providing exciting industry returns and encouraging new participation in the sport that we all love."

Astute trainer Brooke Ennis welcomed the exciting announcement.

"This is really great news for our industry and The Meadows should be congratulated for continuing to give back to participants. We have always wanted to win an Australian Cup and will definitely be trying to have our team up and running ready for the heats in February."

The Group 1 2020 TAB Australian Cup Final will be held amidst a huge night of fun and entertainment at The Meadows on Saturday night 29 February with the new prizemoney levels reflective of an additional $72,000 cash injection from The Meadows' coffers.
