Records To Tumble In Damian's Group 3 Quest

VICTA Damian will start one of the shortest priced favourites in feature race history in next Thursday's G3 Howard Ashton Final at Angle Park.

SUPERSTAR Victa Damian will start one of the shortest priced favourites in feature race history when he tackles next Thursday night's Group 3 Howard Ashton Final (530m) at Angle Park.

An age restricted classic open to SA bred dogs only, Victa Damian went into the series heads and shoulders above his opposition in every measurable metric.

And his vice-like grip on the $25,000-to-the-winner series only strengthened following the box draw where the National Derby hero drew the coveted rails alley.

The son of Fernando Bale has been simply awesome through the opening two rounds of the series, winning his heat in a track record equalling 29.86 before taking out his semi-final in a slick 30.04.

His total aggregate winning margin so far a monstrous 18 ½ lengths.

They say there are no certainties in racing but if there is one then it's Victa Damian in next Thursday night's Group 3 decider where a decent surface could see the track record lowered.

Trained by Tony Rasmussen, Victa Damian will be joined by six kennelmates in the finale, the only finalist not trained by Rasmussen, the Tim Richards prepared Coorong Cam.

Remarkably, six of the eight finalists stem from the hugely talented Fernando Bale x Victa Polly litter, led by superstar Victa Damian, winner at 12 of his 18 appearances.

Following Victa Damian's Howard Ashton assignment, Rasmussen has earmarked a trip to Brisbane for the lucrative Group 2 Flying Amy Classic while a tilt at the Group 1 Brisbane Cup, boasting stake money of $1 million, is on the agenda also.
