A field of exceptional young sprinters are set to face the starter for an absorbing finale to the Trio's Winter Cup (520m) at Cranbourne this Saturday night.

Five cracking heats of the $20,000 to-the-winner event were run and won last Wednesday, where time honours went the way of the Phil Smith-trained Eight Ball, the hugely talented son of Kayda Shae rocketing over the course in a fast 30.35.

Winner at six of his 16 starts and responsible for sizzling city winning times of 29.24 (Sandown) and 29.78 (The Meadows), Eight Ball heads into Saturday night's decider in exceptional form for Smith, looking open to even further improvement following his hugely impressive Cranbourne debut.

The second fastest qualifier for the final is Angela Langton's powerhouse youngster Western Envoy, the son of Kinloch Brae charging late to run a smart 30.39 at his first look at Cranbourne, taking his record to six wins from the 13 appearances.

Rounding out the heat winners was Start A Riot for Keith Hellmuth in 30.51, while Max Tractor scored for Jeff Geall in 30.53.

Bookmaker Bet365 has found it difficult to split the majority of runners in betting, not surprising, given just three lengths separated the five heat winners on the clock.

Heading the Bet365 market at $3.80 apiece is Western Envoy and Eight Ball from boxes one and two respectively, while Get It Gizmo, an eye-catching second in his heat behind Eight Ball when beaten just two lengths, is at a $4.20 quote from his tricky box five draw.

Space Trucking, a gallant second to the very strong Western Envoy in his heat, is a $6.50 chance from box seven, while the speedy Start A Riot, capable of running slashing times, has been installed at the generous odds of $10.00.
