ONE of Queensland's most talented staying bitches will be retired to the breeding barn following the upcoming State National Distance series.

Her breeder and owner Steve Williams said this today of the fabulous daughter of Zambora Brockie and Velocity Shirl.

“I have never been one to over race the bitches I breed with and this is what I have planned for Velocity Bettina,” said Williams.

Velocity Bettina has started 36 times for 17 wins and seven placings earning $163,000 under the judicious training care of veteran dog man Kevin Ellis.

She is the winner of the Group 3 Golden Sands, Group 3 Super Stayers, the Dashing Corsair, Ipswich Futurity, Ipswich Grand Prix, was second in the Group 1 Queensland Cup and a finalist in the Group 1 Rookie Rebel, Group 2 Queensland Futurity and Group 3 Ipswich Gold Cup.

She has always been able to run, reeling off a sizzling 30.09 at Ipswich, and 41.65 and 34.72 at Albion Park.

Williams already plans a mating to Black Magic Opal with Velocity Bettina.

It will recreate the pedigree of champion sprint bitch Black Opium who is by Black Magic Opal from Captivating the dam being a litter sister to Velocity Bettina's dam Velocity Shirl.

Williams says he will have a number of the Black Magic Opal-Velocity Bettina pups for sale at three months.

The heats of the National Distance will be run at Albion Park on Thursday week.
