OUTSTANDING race bitch Dam Slippery has been retired following a hapless run with injuries.

It ends a remarkable racing career of 54 starts which resulted in 22 wins and 18 placings for $201,000 in stakes.

The daughter of Dyna Double One and Go Mini Mouse was bred and raced by mates Michael Phillips and David Blench and trained throughout her career by Brett Hazelgrove.

She won the Group 2 Richmond Oaks, a Young Guns at Albion Park, the State Of Origin and was second in the Group 1 National Futurity at Wentworth Park and the Group 2 Queensland Futurity at Albion Park.

“Amazing bitch, amazing ride,” was how Phillips summed up the bitch's racing career.

“She will now go off to stud and David and I need to sit down and plan her future matings.

“We have a couple of straws to Kinloch Brae, and have also thought about Fernando Bale for her, but the fact she is 24.5 kilos could rule that out.

“It is something we will discuss.”

Phillips was high in praise of the job Hazelgrove did taking Dam Slippery to the top of her game.

“We are hands-on owners, but everything we all did with this bitch was done in great co-operation with Brett,” said Phillips. “He was superb.”

Dam Slippery has a huge career ahead of her at stud. She is from a fabulous litter that also included Group 1 Dapto Megastar finalist
Double Back and from classy race bitch and producer Go Mini Mouse (21 wins, $40,000) a litter sister to star performer Go Jessie's Girl (17 wins, $51,000).

“There is a real Queensland flavour to Dam Slippery because she was whelped and reared there by Ian and Kerry Hoggan,” said Phillips.

“She got to the elite level.

“My proudest moment was when the Queensland greyhound of the year function was halted midway through to watch Dam Slippery win the Richmond Oaks. It was amazing.”

Dam Slippery was one of three 2019 Queensland greyhound of the year finalists, along with Bago Bye Bye and Wise Misty, but the awards function was not held because of coronavirus.
