Ring Me Can Answer Rockhampton Cup Calling

PREMIER trainer Ken Boody believes home-bred Ring Me has the pace to lead next Friday night's Group 3 Rockhampton Cup Final (510m) and once in front “anything can happen from there”.

Ring Me (Keybow-Thrilla Stroke) is from the first litter bred in Rockhampton by Ken and his family from a bitch raced with success by his father.

Ring Me led throughout to win a heat of the Cup on Friday in 30.01 but significantly ran the quickest first section of the series.

“Yes, she can lead the final,” said Ken after the bitch drew favourably in box two for the final.

“Come On Aussie and Shipwreck are drawn either side of her and they are not brilliant early.

“But our bitch is a faultless beginner.

“Yes those others are a bit stronger, but she can break 30 seconds and from the front anything can happen,” he said.

Ring Me has won 18 races for the Boody kennel which heads the trainer's premiership in Rockhampton.

Group star Shipwreck ran the quickest of the heats with a 29.68 victory aided by the perfect draw in the rails, holding out Adulate and rivals on the first turn.

He is well placed in the three for the final for Ned Snow who also has littermate Come On Aussie in the rails in the final.

Hall of Fame trainer Tony Zammit also has two finalists, It's A Roo and Adulate.

It's A Roo ran 30.20 when a stylish winner over Keen.

Bundaberg bitch, Bro's Girl, got all the early breaks when winning her heat in 30.15 for John White.

John Catton was back in Brisbane celebrating he and wife Anita's wedding anniversary when Locked On Scotch led throughout to win his heat by 10 lengths in a fast 29.76 over Cincinnati Bill.

Ken Boody said it was “extra special” to have Ring Me, a bitch he and his family had whelped, reared and now train, into the Cup final.
