Rose Blooms In Capalaba Futurity

FLAMING Rose will be stretched out to 520 metres after cementing her class with a stellar victory in the Capalaba Futurity (366m) on Sunday.

FLAMING Rose will be stretched out to 520m in the coming weeks with the Group 2 Queensland Futurity her target after cementing her class with a victory in the Capalaba Futurity (366m) on Sunday.

The daughter of Aston Dee Bee and Jay Bay Queen scored by three and a half lengths over Glitter Strip with a half-length to Power Point Diva in third.

The winner ran 19.76 for her fourth win in just six starts.

And the win proved trainer Jason Schmidt's plan to set her for the Capalaba Futurity four months ago in a bid to go one better than her half sister Taylor Maid did a couple of years ago.

“We bred her and she has always shown something special,” said Jason who shares ownership with his brother Craig.

“When she was just 14 months old we had to put her with racing dogs because none of the pups we had at the time could keep up with her.”

Flaming Rose has already won at Albion Park over 395m in a scorching 22.53.

“I have a gut feeling she will run the 500 metres right out,” said Jason.

“Our next move will be to give her a couple of post to posts at Albion Park to get her ready for the Futurity there.”

The Futurity will be run with heats on December 3 with the $60,000 to-the-winner final on December 10.

“Her run home times are good, she's a great box dog, and even winning the Futurity at Capalaba, Albion Park winning bitches were not able to run her down,” said Jason.

Flaming Rose's half sister Taylor Maid has just been mated to Fabregas and their mother Jay Bay Queen (Brett Lee-Surf Queen) has just come on season and will be mated to Hooked On Scotch.

It has been a good year for the Schmidts, winning the Ipswich Auction Final earlier in the year with Zambora Brockie dog Rio Valiente.

JAMIE Hosking's straight track star Columbian King (Dyna Double One-Paul's Memory) continued his domination of Capalaba feature races when he won the Derby in a slick 19.56.

The raging hot $1.45 favourite scored by just three-quarters of a length over Magical Trav with a length to Tough As Teak in third.

For Columbian King it was his 18th victory in 36 starts but his fourth feature race win at Capalaba.

He has this year already won the Queensland Straight Track Championship, Grand Prix and Capelbourne Cup.

His litter sister, Power Point Diva, chased home Flaming Rose when third in the Futurity.
