RUPEE Rebel, Seaton and Mighty Quinn are among the top fancies who have fared well at the box draw for Thursday night's Group 3 Devonport Chase (461m) in Hobart.

Seaton is an emerging star of the racing scene, boasting an impressive record of seven starts with six victories under the guidance of Tasmanian Hall of Fame trainer Ted Medhurst.

The son of Shima Shine boasts an unbeaten record at Hobart, with five starts for five wins at the distance. His impressive time of 25.84 seconds in last week's heat suggests he will be hard to defeat.

FIELDS AND FORM HOBART THURSDAY

A win would extend Ted's remarkable record in the Devonport Chase, where he has already won on five occasions.

He meets stiff opposition in the $30,000-to-winner feature, where he will encounter Tasmanian St. Leger winner Rupee Rebel, and classy performers Ducati Roy and Might Quinn.

First held in 1953, the Devonport Chase is one of the three premier races on the Tasmanian greyhound calendar, boasting an honour roll of some of the finest chasers including Wynlee Wonder, Shantung Tiger, Black Caleb, Stylish Doctor, Big Moose, Rewind, Keune, Wynburn Sheean, Rojo Diamond, and Raider's Guide.

Here's a look at each of Thursday night's finalists:

1 – MIGHTY QUINN

Trainer: Michael Stringer

Heat Time: 25.79 (1)

First Split P/B: 5.22

Record from Box 1; 12: 4-3-3

Has previously contested group races, having made the Group 3 Mt Gambier Cup Final in SA, making this his second appearance at Group 3 level. Broke through his first Tassie win out of the heats last week, starting to now pick up form. Comes up with rails draw again and only needs to replicate recent performances to be a chance.

Can he win? Yes, with an ounce of luck when he makes his run

2 – SEATON

Trainer: Ted Medhurst

Heat Time: 25.84 (5)

First Split P/B: 5.05

Record from Box 2; first start

Racing well and climbing the ranks quickly. He an impressive of seven starts for six wins and is undefeated at the Hobart circuit with five wins from five outings. His good box manners should be enough early speed to outpace his rivals that are drawn on either side of the track – toughest test of his career so far.

Can he win? Yes, but must be at the front going through the first turn

3 – LADY JULIETTE

Trainer: Paul Hilli

Heat Time: 26.21 (1)

First Split P/B: 5.02

Record from Box 3; 4: 2-0-0

Has been racing well in graded company. Only a limited record at track and distance with six starts for two wins. Her career has primarily been over shorter trips, stepping up to 400m and 500m occasionally, with wins few and far between at longer distances. Can run a sharp first split but is likely to find one (or more) better in the run to the line.

Can she win? No, but will run an honest race if left untouched

4 – DUCATI ROY

Trainer: Michael Sherriff

Heat Time: 25.87 (4)

First Split P/B: 5.03

Record from Box 4; 5: 3-1-1

An outstanding performer throughout his career, he has secured placings in the Group 2 Traralgon and Group 1 Hobart Thousand. Entering his fifth group final, he has amassed $147,920 in prizemoney. Competing at the elite level throughout his career on two-turn and one-turn tracks, he has 15 wins from 27 starts.

Can he win? Yes, on class alone he's well and truly in the mix

5 – POLLINATOR KEN

Trainer: Joshua Wright

Heat Time: 25.81 (4)

First Split P/B: 4.99

Record from Box 5: 1: 0-0-0

Shot through the grades in recent weeks from grade 5 company into group race level. Couldn't have done more in that heat winning performance – by far the best run of his career to date.

Can he win? No. Certainly, deserves his place in the final based on his heat run.

*************************

6 – ASHTON

Trainer: Ted Medhurst

Finished second to Mighty Quinn – one of two runner ups making the field

First Split P/B: 5.06

Record from Box 6; first start

It was a solid performance behind Mighty Quinn, running powerfully to finish second with a time of 25.98 in behind the winner. Has immense ability but her record shows inconsistency.

Can she win? No. but can run in the first four at a big price

7 – CADIA GOLD

Trainer: Michael Pearce

Finished second to Rupee Rebel – second of two runner ups making the field

First Split P/B: 5.03

Record from Box 7; 2: 0-0-1

Returning to form after a brief respite following the Hobart Thousand series, he has performed exceptionally well in recent months. His performance in the heats indicates a comeback to regaining his career-best form.

Can he win? Yes, but needs terrible amount of luck and lots of trouble in behind to be a chance

*************************

8 – RUPEE REBEL

Trainer: Allan Clark

Heat Time: 25.68 (2)

First Split P/B: 5.04

Record from Box 8; 2: 2-0-0

Exceptionally high-class performer with a powerful run home, was outstanding in his heat win coming from behind off the speed to powering away and record the fastest time of all six heat winners. Has been placed well and taken every run on with pure ability with a promising future ahead over further ground.

Can he win? Yes, the obvious favourite

**********************

The verdict: Another high-quality field to do battle in the Devonport Chase. It's a race in three between Mighty Quinn (1) and Seaton (2) who have both favoured on the box draw, while Rupee Rebel (8) will drop in behind and with a clear run will have a final crack at them in the run to the finish – clearly the class runner of the field. Ducati Roy (4) will get room to move and should muster in the mid stages and can figure in the finish.
