Ryan's Classic Quartet Dominate Breeders Final

OUTSIDER Ava Wine has upstaged his more fancied littermates to secure Monday night’s Tasmanian Breeders Classic Final at Launceston.

AVA Wine has upstaged his more fancied littermates to secure Monday night's Tasmanian Breeders Classic Final (515m) at Launceston.

Trainer Pat Ryan went into the $5,000-to-the-winner finale with an embarrassment of riches, qualifying four finalists, each from the hugely exciting Sh Avatar x See Blue's Girl litter.

Speaking to the Recorder in the lead up to Monday night's final, Ryan was dismissive of Ava Wine's prospects from his horror box seven draw, far more confident that his chances rested with the better boxed Savage Victor and Handsome Prince.

But after a clean getaway from box seven, Ava Wine, a 29.91 heat winner a week earlier, got himself into the picture through the early stages before pulling away late to defeat Savage Victor by two lengths in 29.81.

Finishing third was a gallant Handsome Prince while Splotched finished fourth, securing Ryan the first four across the line in a memorable night for the Dilston based conditioner.

Lavish in his praise for the Breeders incentives on offer by Tasracing, Ryan not only walked away with the $7,200 stake money for filling the first four on Monday night, but also another $5,000 in breeders' bonuses.

Monday night's memorable performance looks to be the springboard for a big 12 months from Ryan and his hugely exciting Sh Avatar x See Blue's Girl litter.

Still learning their craft, Ryan has earmarked the fast approaching Illingworth Classic at Launceston for the star quartet.
