SA Sprint Championship Headlines Angle Park Card

THURSDAY night will see a terrific 12-race program at Angle Park, headlined by the final of the Listed SA Sprint Championship Final over the 515m journey.

THURSDAY night will see a terrific 12-race program at Angle Park, headlined by the final of the Listed SA Sprint Championship and five heats of the time-honoured John Gray series for grade five greyhounds.

While the Ben Rawlings-trained Peaky Boo will start a warm favourite for the SA Sprint Championship after a slick 30.11 heat win last week, the Kim Johnstone-trained Cabao Opal is also in the market after a solid 30.52 heat win.

FIELDS AND FORM ANGLE PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

Arriving in South Australia in August last year from the Dailly kennel ahead of the SA Oaks, her local form has been first rate, collecting seven wins and eight placings from her 20 starts.

"I used to live next door to Tom and George (Dailly) and I wanted her for the Oaks so I sent George a message and he sent her over," Johnstone said.

Cabao Opal put in a huge run to win her heat running over the top of Fear the Dragon and Pet Detective.

After she jumped fairly from box four, she was able to balance up and work into position down the back straight before unleashing a brilliant final burst with a strong 12.57 run home.

"It was a really good run, I was very proud of her. She's starting to get some confidence," Johnstone said.

The daughter of Beast Unleashed and Cabao has drawn box two while Johnstone is happy with the draw, she concedes that luck will be required if Cabao Opal is to be winning the race.

"She likes to track a bit off, she's not a railer, she also likes a bit of room, hopefully she can just position up," Johnstone said.

"The one (Aunty Meeka) has a bit of pace as does the four (Hunker Down). I am just hoping she can lob in a good spot behind them. Pet Detective will be coming down to, I would rather be inside than outside, but she's going to need some luck."

Johnstone will also have two runners in the heats of the John Gray series with five heats of the grade 5 series.

The heats of the John Gray series are races two to six on the Angle Park program with several key chances in the series with a mix of in-form locals and a handful of Victorian raiders.

Racing commences at 6:35pm local time with the SA Sprint Championship running as race 8 on the card at 9:01pm.

"In the Festival Of Fire final I thought she had her chance but she just got hammered, but then ran on a bit. She's just a bit tardy early, she doesn't have the (early) pace."
