Sammy In Sublime Touch Ahead Of Sprinters Cup

TOP flight group winning star Typhoon Sammy is boxed to perfection for Wednesday night's star-studded Grafton Sprinters Cup Final.

GLENDA Dart galloped three dogs on Sunday morning, Grafton Sprinters Cup hopefuls Typhoon Sammy and Commands Respect, and a young maiden and instantly declared to husband John she “needs a faster car”.

The Dart training method is to free gallop their race dogs up a 300m straight but get them to chase behind one of the family cars that travels on the road that runs alongside the straight track.

“Glenda drives a Ford Kruger and she was flat to the boards to stay with those three dogs on Sunday morning,” said John. “She says she could not keep up.

FIELDS AND FORM GRAFTON WEDNESDAY NIGHT

“I was not here to see it because I had to take Gypsy Del to Newcastle for a Monday morning appointment with Peter Yore.

“Glenda could not believe how fast they went.”

Typhoon Sammy goes into the Sprinters Cup final boxed to perfection. He has raced just five times from box eight for four wins and a placing.

He also has a first section of 8.88, the quickest of any of the Cup finalists at Grafton.

And his 25.10 is the quickest of any of the Cup runners.

“He's feeling a million dollars,” said John.

“But, it is a very hard race. Orara Dan and the old dog Fire Legend are hard to beat. The old dog has won eight of his last nine.

“Sammy missed it a bit last week in the heats but he had enough to clear them at the first turn.

“I'm hoping he can begin better in the final.”

Of the Cup chances of kennelmate Commands Respect, Dart said the dog would need plenty of luck in running.

Meanwhile, boom youngster, Gypsy Del, will be out of action for a month.

“She has a small tear in a back muscle,” said John. “Peter (Yore) said she would need two weeks on the lead, two weeks in a small yard and then could start galloping again.”

And, the name of the maiden galloper which made Grafton Sprinters Cup hopes Typhoon Sammy and Commands Respect, and Glenda's Ford Kruger stretch to their limits?

“That's a kennel secret,” said John.
