Saturday Night: Wentworth Park Preview

While group racing is now on the back-burner at Wentworth Park, there’s still a strong 10 race card this Saturday night, with some value to be had across the program.

While the big group racing action is now on the backburner at Wentworth Park for a while, there's still a strong 10 race card this Saturday night, with the majority of events looking very even contests on paper.

Interestingly, five of the races will see progeny of Chica Destacada go around as favourites, be it from her first litter to Fernando Bale or second to Barcia Bale.

If each of the five were to salute, which does look a real possibility, it would be yet another sensational feat from this remarkable dam, breaking records left, right and centre.

Race 1

Really intriguing opening race of the night with speed freak FRISKEY (1) making her 520m debut. Will lead, that's for sure. Winner 31 of 48 but the last 50m will be the test. Suspect REALLY UNREAL (8) gets her late. Loves the pink and she's won four of 12 at the T/D with a 29.92 PB. DASHIN' ETHICS (5) next best, doesn't break the clock but is a two-time winner here in town and is always around the mark. Expect the wings dominate the opener.

Race 2

TENNESSEE TIGER (7) has been airborne winning his past two starts at Richmond and Bulli for new trainer Mark Gatt. Showing plenty of talent and the small field suits here, big show. IDES OF JEBRYNAH (4) has won the seven from 17, he makes his city debut in spectacular form and the vacant draw to his outside is an advantage. PRINCE PLANET (3) is a big striding chaser that won his only city start in 30.23 from box eight, loads of talent but slightly concerned he gets cluttered up early tonight. Needs to step – if he does big show.

Race 3

EMBYE (6) was disappointing last week when a hot favourite from box one. Better served tonight from the wider draw with the vacant box inside him. Monster when in full stretch and anywhere near his 41.88 PB wins this. SHOW ME CONFETTI (3) ran 42.40 finishing second in that same race last week, on pacer right in the hunt. NARCISSIST (4) makes his 720m debut. Couldn't have been more impressive winning his two recent Richmond 618m races, prefer to see him first up over the 720m though. Look for BOOK OF LUCK (2) to run a sneaky race as well, working back to peak form.

Race 4

Early markets have BLUE SUMMER SKY (2) at $1.60 ahead of CHEEKY TUNES (4) at $2.40. At those prices happy to be with the latter, a tidy third in strong class last week running 42.49. Placed 3 of 5 here T/D, can crack it for a win. Checks the one to beat, only start here at the trip was a win in 42.47. Really does look like a match in two on paper, WAIKIKI BIG GIRL (5) worth including at value, has run some nice races here and small field suits.

Race 5

Expect bookies will be keen to take on VELOCE NERO (3) dropping back to the 520m tonight. Group 1 winner over the distance and no doubt she's the best dog in the race, look for her steaming home with the right breaks in the run. ANCIENT SECRET (6) led up here last week off the red before being collared late in good time. Tricky draw but not a lot of speed engaged. Look for an each-way run from EYE ROCK (5) – handles a middle draw and recent efforts have been better than they appear in unsuitable races. Open race, OUZO (2) in the mix as well, recent Bulli efforts have been a decent pointer for a race like this.

Race 6

RAGADEEN (3) scored in a fast 22.60 over the 400m at Richmond last month and her only city start – last December mind you – was a slick 30.25 win. Not an overly strong race and kennel in top form. TELEGRAPH ROAD (7) has talent, but also a habit of finding one better. Will be thereabouts, he always is! GINA SPAGHETTI (2) has won five of 11, generally a good beginner but would prefer her drawn a big wider. Open race, host of chances.

Race 7

As good as she is, I just can't take odds-on about RITZA VONNIE (1) at the moment at Wenty. Placed 3 of 5 at the T/D and she could quite easily come out and win by 10, but at the price prefer to go with SIR DUKE (7) who will be a serious dog … when the penny drops. Don't mind the wide draw for him and the odds are appealing, been racing well without winning recently. TWICE AS WISE (4) didn't see out recent 600m attempts at Dapto – look for a run from her tonight, the vacant draw to her outside is a big plus. Races well here too.

Adam Dobbin selects: 7,1,4,3

Race 8

The reduced field really does see BLUE MOON RISING (2) the dog to beat and the $2.00 early doors appears about right. ZOMBIE (7) will lead and give a big sight but with the less traffic to navigate, expect the favourite will be too strong late dropping back from two recent distant wins. OXLEY REBEL (1) is the other major player but he worries me from the inside … no doubting his ability though. At his best wins this.

Adam Dobbin selects: 2,7,1,4

Race 9

NO RULES (7) lines up after scoring on Wednesday at his city debut in 30.06. Chaser on the up and no reason he can't go back-to-back in this. WEEMALA LEO (4) has finished second his past three at Richmond after leading on each occasion. Has placed 2 of 3 here and looks the leader but probably not that well suited to the small field. That pair will dominate betting – surprised if the winner came away from them.

Adam Dobbin selects: 7,4,1,2

Race 10

She'll be short but MAKING A MEMORY (7) should send punters home a winner. Placed 4 of 6 at the track but this does look her race – draw looks to suit. IBROX SANDMAN (2) from a good litter and is lightly raced showing glimpses of talent. Looks the danger. Quiet race to close out the night. Looks the black's to lose with the market sure to reflect that.
